Writing Project: Artist Descriptions

Length of description: 150 - 300 words

Sources of info
Spotify’s “About” section, Wikipedia, Google, etc. (You can paraphrase but please don’t
plagiarize! Be especially careful of re-using recognizable phrases, like "hailing from the outskirts
of Sydney").

How long should they take?

A really good description takes 20-30 mins to draft, meaning you should be able to do 2-3 per
hour.

What should I try to cover?

The perfect description will have
- 3-4 sentences about the artist’s history. You might include facts like:
o What are the band members’ names?
o Where are they from?
o How did they get started?
o What genre of music do they play?
o Who are their influences? Who do they sound like?
o How did they become famous?
- 3-4 sentences highlighting their career. You might talk about things like:
o Most popular songs or albums
o Famous live performances
o Description of live performances.
- As a finishing touch, work in a bit of personality, a sense of cultural significance, and a
quote by the artist. Overall, we’re trying to tell a story that conveys a sense of who the
performers are, both as artists and as people.
