There is certainly a difference in thoughts, ideas and actions between children, their parents and

grandparents. Why do these differences exist? Does it cause problems in your community, in your opinion?
Introduction: (Introduce the topic and MENTION why differences exist and what problems this
causes.)

In a rapidly developing world the differences in opinion, attitude and lifestyle of children from
those of parents and grand parents is obvious. This can be due to several reasons ranging
from emergence of new technologies to influence of western cultures. This leads to various
problems such as lack of inter-generation communication. (52 words)

Body Paragraph 1: (EXALAIN why differences exist)

Emerging technologies such as smartphones, mobile applications, laptops and video games

create a cultural gap between two generations. While the parents prefer personal one-on-one
interaction, children use Facebook and Twitter to communicate with friends. The gap is futher
increased by the spread of western ideas in developing countries. This is evident in food
habits of children, who prefer burgers and junk food, and parents who prefer home made
traditional food. For instance, a recent research in India claimed that western cultural
influence spread through international brands such as Levis, McDonalds, KFC and Facebook
have decreased the time children spend with parents in 2017 by at least 35 percent as
compared to 1990. This has tremendously increased the differences in thoughts, ideas and
actions between the two generations. (128 words)

Body Paragraph 2: (EXPLAIN the problems)

These cultural differences result in a lack of communication between two

generations which leads to improper guidance for youth on one hand and loss of cultural
identity on the other. Social scientists have proved that if children and parents do not
spend sufficient time eating food and discussing ideas, events, history and culture, a
community will forget its culture within five generations. (63 words)

Conclusion: (Conclude the essay by either paraphrasing or writing about FUTURE)

In conclusion, the differences in ideas and attitude of children and parents are
natural. However, these may seriously hamper the development of a society and lead to loss
of identity. The differences should be bridged by encouraging the parents and children to
spend more time with each other. (50 words)

The older generations tend to have very traditional ideas about how people should live, think and behave.
However, some people believe that these ideas are not helpful in preparing younger generations for modern
life. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this view?
In the time of modernity, elderly people are thought to hold out-dated views which are useless for
youngsters. Although, I accept that some traditional ideas can be sometimes obsolete, but I believe that
others still have a positive effect on young people.
On the one hand, strict and traditional thoughts can be becoming less relevant for modern younger persons
who get influences from Western culture. For one reason, they tend to have different values, attitudes and
aims in life from those of older people. For example, today’s couple have a highly tendency to live in small
nuclear families rather than large extended ones. Moreover, old-style taboos and rules could inevitably have
a harmful impact, such as sexual discrimination which force women assume childcare responsibilities and
sacrifice their career, even their dream. This certainly goes against the values of a free and fair society.
On the other hand, showing respect towards the elderly’s decisions and other aspects of life is highly
justifiable. Older people can have accumulated knowledge and valuable experiences, this could easily help
their child deal with troubles. Especially in the age of puberty, with physical and psychological changes,
teenagers will certainly need their parent advices to experience this important stage of a human body.
Besides, the traditional pattern of life still remains its educational values in society that has changed beyond
recognition day by day. By telling fairy tales for children, parents want to teach their children become not
only a good manner person but also a law-abiding citizen. In addition, it is also important to maintain our
different cultural identities.
In conclusion, it seems to me that although the youth of today have greater opportunities to acquire
knowledge than ever before, but they should not dismiss all traditional ideal as irrelevant.
Some people believe that a significant difference between a parent’s age and their child's age is a good
thing. Do you think the advantages of a significant age gap outweigh the disadvantages?
Task 1:
It is believed by some that a large age difference between parents and their children is a good thing. This
essay will compare the advantages and disadvantages of this perception.
One of the advantages is when parents decide to have a child at a more mature age, they are usually more
prepared to take care of the child. They are considered to be more financially or mentally stable and thus can
provide everything necessary to raise a kid. For example, parents in their 30s with stable careers seem to be
more equipped to provide for their children compared to teenage parents who just graduated from high
school. Another advantage of having older parents is the child usually has more respect for the parents. This
is considered very important in many families in Asian culture.
On the other hand, a significant age difference can lead to emotional dan cultural gap between parents and
their children. Parents that have a fixed mindset can have a problem understanding their child who gets
multiple influences from friends and social media. Moreover, many parents are having a problem catching
up with the advancement of technology, unlike their children, hence creating more gaps between them.
In my opinion, while having a large age gap between parents and their offspring has its advantages, it does
not necessarily outweigh the disadvantages. What is important is the ability of the parents to provide
guidance for their children regardless of their age difference. To summarize, the number of years between
parents and their children is not an important factor to create a good relationship.
Task 2:
Children have incredible effects on how they are raised by their parents. In other words, some people believe
that a bigger age gap between parents and children has more advantages than disadvantages. I generally
support this view for the following reasons.
On one hand, it is the undeniable truth that there are mutual benefits between parents and children whose
ages differ greatly. First, older parents are usually more financially stable, which allows them to provide
children with a higher quality of education. Therefore, their maturity makes them better prepared to raise
children. Secondly, thanks to their diverse life experience, children are more likely to gain helpful advice
and a sense of security and comfort will increase as a result.
On the other hand, there are some negative outcomes brought as the age of their parents is apart from that of
their children. In other words, the wide difference in their age often becomes serious trouble when it comes
to communicating and understanding each other. For example, it is difficult for older adults to understand
the convenience of SNS, which has become a primary way for the younger generations to exchange their
updates with families and friends. Consequently, the lack of understanding of each other leads to a gradual
rise of tensions between them. This may create isolation of children.
In conclusion, older parents are usually more financially advantageous, which allows their children to have a
more successful life. However, the huge difference in their age makes it harder for them to understand each
other fully.
It is important to give children the chance to act independently and make their own decisions from
early age. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this idea?
Task 1:
The major purpose of education for children, especially in early age, is to help them discover and achieve
their potentials. As their parents and teachers, we should provide them enough space for children to think
and act freely. Personally, I agree this idea above, but we should also know that too much freedom for them
could lead to an adverse consequence.
To begin with, some people support the idea that it is beneficial for the development of children to express
their ideas independently at early age. Because it’s a good way for children to build their confidence and also
to give opportunities to tackle problems by themselves. Besides, the abilities of critical thinking and
problem-solving independently could benefit for their future study and career. In other words, it is necessary
to be succeeded with these characters. Therefore, expressing independently is essential for the development
of children.
On the other hand, young children cannot well adapt the social norm without guidance of parents. Given the
fact children have no idea about social regulation or courtesy, they tend to do what they want in the public if
their parents allow them. For instance, some children like running, chasing, and screaming in the restaurant,
which not only disturb other customers also could embarrass their parents. So, parents should educate them
the social regulation and restrict their behaviour in case such happens in their adulthood. Thus, to some
extent, it is necessary to limit children’s behaviour to avoid them forming bad habits.
In conclusion, we should realize that thinking independently is a merit for young children, which might help
children build confidence and acquire the ability of critical thinking. But we also need to alert that without
parents’ guidance children could be easily to form bad habits.
Task 2:
A number of children desire to live independently these days. Some people think that it is significant that
children are given the opportunity to act independently and they can make their own decisions from an early
age. I completely disagree with this idea, and I believe that parents should guide their children.
First of all, there are some reasons as to why children should not act freely in daily life. One of the main
reasons is that children do not have a greater knowledge of modern life and they should gain experience by
observing parents and others’ lives. For instance, some children tend to start smoking cigarettes, which is
harmful to their health and lead to severe diseases from a very young age. If children can realize that
smoking is addictive and not beneficial for them by observing the problems which others suffer. Moreover,
video game addiction has become a concerning problem among children in recent years, and this trend
impacts their mental health in a negative way, which, in turn, result in game addiction, stress, anxiety, and
depression. Therefore, children should not be given a large space of personal and freedom
Secondly, children who lack parental supervision tend to more likely to become obese.
The reason is that children prefer more consuming junk food rather than home-cooked food. As a result of
that, they suffer from obesity from an early age. For example, health experts suggest that TV is a major
culprit in childhood obesity. A number of children who move independently tend to watch TV for hours, and
those who watch TV a lot, attend less physical activities. The lack of physical exercise in children plays a
major role in developing obesity. Thus, parental supervision is by far more important than children's
independence.
In conclusion, is it important that children are allowed act autonomously? Considering the given reasons, it
is not literally important that children live as they wish. I fully disagree with the idea that children should not
be dependent on their parents, whereas they should make their own decision. The reason is that If parents
allow them to act independently and make their own decisions, children suffer from health problems caused
by smoking and video games as well as obesity, which is a concerning problem among children.
Some people believe that unpaid community service should be a compulsory part of high school
programmes (for example working for a charity, improving the neighbourhood or teaching sports to
younger children).
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
It has been suggested that high school students should be involved in unpaid community services as a
compulsory part of high school programmes. Most of the colleges are already providing opportunities to
gain work experience, however these are not compulsory. In my opinion, sending students to work in
community services is a good idea as it can provide them with many valuable skills.
Life skills are very important and by doing voluntary work, students can learn how to communicate with
others and work in a team but also how to manage their time and improve their organizational skills.
Nowadays, unfortunately, teenagers do not have many after-school activities. After-school clubs are no
longer that popular and students mostly go home and sit in front of the TV, browse internet or play video
games.
By giving them compulsory work activities with charitable or community organizations, they will be
encouraged to do something more creative. Skills gained through compulsory work will not only be an asset
on their CV but also increase their future employability. Students will also gain more respect towards work
and money as they will realize that it is not that easy to earn them and hopefully will learn to spend them in a
more practical way.
Healthy life balance and exercise are strongly promoted by the NHS, and therefore any kind of spare time
charity work will prevent from sitting and doing nothing. It could also possibly reduce the crime level in the
high school age group. If students have activities to do, they will not be bored and come up with silly ideas
which can be dangerous for them or their surroundings.
In conclusion, I think this is a very good idea, and I hope this programme will be put into action for high
schools/colleges shortly.

Some people think that young people should be required to do unpaid work helping people in the
community. Are disadvantages of this requirement greater than the benefits for the community and
individuals? OR
It is suggested that all the young adults should undertake a period of unpaid work helping people in the
community. Does it bring more benefits or drawbacks to the community and the young people?
Task 1:
Many young people work on a volunteer basis, and this can only be beneficial for both the individual and
society as a whole. However, I do not agree that we should therefore force all teenagers to do unpaid work.
Most young people are already under enough pressure with their studies, without being given the added
responsibility of working in their spare time. School is just as demanding as a full-time job, and teachers
expect their students to do homework and exam revision on top of attending lessons every day. When young
people do have some free time, we should encourage them to enjoy it with their friends or to spend it doing
sports and other leisure activities. They have many years of work ahead of them when they finish their
studies.
At the same time, I do not believe that society has anything to gain from obliging young people to do unpaid
work. In fact, I would argue that it goes against the values of a free and fair society to force a group of
people to do something against their will. Doing this can only lead to resentment amongst young people,
who would feel that they were being used, and parents, who would not want to be told how to raise their
children. Currently, nobody is forced to volunteer, and this is surely the best system.
In conclusion, teenagers may choose to work for free and help others, but in my opinion we should not make
this compulsory.
Task 2:
Every year when summer comes around, volunteer students in their conspicuous blue shirts are ubiquitous.
They can be spotted in the streets, delivering free food to the less fortunate, at waiting tables in front of the
school gates providing information to students, or on the beach collecting trash under the sizzling weather.
However, it still remains a topic of debate whether these activities are wholly beneficial for students.
On one side of the argument, there are a number of benefits for students who are involved in community
service. In the technologically-advanced world, it is a common problem that people show scant concern
about others’ affairs. These activities certainly help them gain insight into the lives of the underprivileged,
realise how fortunate they are, and therefore inspire in them a higher sense of responsibility with the
community. Besides, participating in volunteer programs is also a very effective way for students to combat
stress and hone various crucial life skills such as communication, teamwork, or time-management.
Despite the multiple merits of volunteer activities, there are still a lot of raised eyebrows. Firstly, making
unpaid work obligatory to all students without any exception will certainly cause resentment among
themselves or their families. In addition, students’ studies at school can be sabotaged as they are always
short of time to complete their homework or revise their lessons. The other, more profound consequence that
can ensue from the constant poor academic performance is the bleak career prospects that the future hold for
them.
To conclude, the importance of community service should be fully realised; however, it should not be made
compulsory for all students.
Useful Expressions :
Show scant concern about…: Pay no interest to…
The underprivileged: Those who don’t have much money, possessions…
The sizzling weather: extremely hot weather.
Inspire in them higher sense of responsibility: to make them become more responsible.
Hone various crucial life skills: improve those skills.
Multiple merits: a lot of benefits.
There are still a lot of raised eyebrows: There are more things to be considered.
To be short of time: do not have enough time.
To cause resentment: cause anger, disagreement.
To sabotage (v.) to damage, destroy.
Ensue (v.) happen.
Bleak career prospects: low chance of getting a good job.
Task 3:
Many people are currently proposing a solution to solve problems in the local area: have young people do
volunteer, unpaid work to help people in their neighborhood. Although there are some drawbacks to this
policy, I believe it is generally beneficial to society.
There are various benefits to this mandatory volunteer work. Firstly, it will help young people develop a
sense of responsibility and community. By helping out people who they are familiar with growing up, they
will feel more thankful and personally connected with their neighborhood. Secondly, through unpaid
volunteer work, young people can significantly alleviate social problems and improve the quality of life in
their community. Younger people nowadays are more open-minded and creative, which means when they
channel these strengths into solving local problems, new solutions will arise. For example, many have
developed group chats on social media to create an exercise-buddy program, encouraging people to do more
physical activities.
However, there are still some disadvantages associated with this policy. The first drawback is that this year
of voluntary work will be an interruption in their studies or their work. Many students can easily forget
knowledge learned after just a few months of not continuing their studies, let alone a year. The second
drawback is that if this policy is mandatory, it can pose a stressor to the younger generation. For example,
many already have multiple responsibilities to tend to, like taking care of their siblings, working for their
families, or struggling to study or find a job. Adding yet another one will cause them to carry out the
volunteer work carelessly. Some may even publicly object to it, thinking that they are stripped of their
freedom.
In conclusion, it is undeniable that this policy carries some disadvantages, especially for people in
underdeveloped areas. However, I think that if it is encouraged, rather than mandated, it is generally
advantageous.
Should teachers be banned from interacting with students on social networking sites ?
Social media has made it possible to connect with anyone, anywhere, which includes teachers and students.
There are both pros and cons to this type of interaction. Teens rely heavily on social media for
communication, so many teachers see this as an opportunity to engage and motivate students. However,
social media can potentially provide teachers and students direct, unsupervised contact beyond the
classroom, which poses risks and could lead to misconduct. There is a lot of debate over what’s appropriate,
so we will try to cover the important things to know in this blog.
Potential Benefits of Student/Teacher Social Media Interaction
 Social media interaction provides teachers and students an easy and engaging way to communicate.
 A teen who has a question about a homework assignment may be able to get an answer right away by
messaging his teacher.
 A teacher can communicate with the class quickly if they realize they need to correct a mistake,
change the homework assignment, remind students of an exam, or provide last minute instructions.
This can be especially useful if the teacher unexpectedly needs to be absent.
 Social media interaction provides a real world example for teens to learn about respectful
communication, setting the stage for them to communicate properly with the adult world.
 Students and teachers can participate in discussions that add value to the lesson and encourages the
sharing of ideas. Learning can continue outside of the classroom. When used correctly, different
social platforms can get students to practice “lower-level thinking” at home and prep them for
“higher-level thinking” in the classroom.
 Online communication can also help shy or quiet students to participate in class discussions in a way
that feels more comfortable to them.
 Social media encourages virtual study groups. Research has shown that study groups are one of the
strongest determinants of a student’s success in college.

Ecotourism is now defined as responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment.
What are the advantages of ecotourism? How can we make ecotourism more popular?
Ecotourism is one growing industry that hardly affected when the COVID-19 hit, the abrupt fall in
tourist arrivals has shaken all areas of tourism industry’s value-chain. The pandemic crisis unveil the
important role of ecotourism in providing sustainable livelihoods to people and funding for biodiversity
conservation. This paper will examine the advantages of ecotourism and identify steps in making the
industry become increasingly popular.
Firstly, some countries benefited much from the visiting travelers in every tourist destinations. It become
an important source of revenue that provide livelihoods to locals and support finance the development of
a country. Jobs for instance, ecotourism provides employment opportunity for inhabitants from a wide
range of services to tourists. Tourism as a whole provides sustainable means of living for millions across
all countries. Similarly, ecotourism helps preserve ecological balance for future generations. This
concept will enable children to experience ecosystems in its stunning beauty in years to come. In
essence, the aim of ecotourism is to provide stronger nature’s protection for the later generations.
At present, several ecological tourism sites are experiencing deterioration or under serious threat. Some
developers apparently appear as ecological protectors, but in reality they played part in the destruction of
Earth’s natural features. In order to minimize the unfavourable effect of environmental exploitation,
ecotourism stakeholders should promote sustainable development. For example, the government must
carry out strict implementation of general restrictions in all environmental sensitive areas to reduce the
impact of commercialization in protected wilderness. Furthermore, governments and private sectors may
collaborate for a large-scale campaign to educate travelers and local handlers about the importance of
ecosystems and biodiversity preservations.
In conclusion, ecotourism brings tourists to far rural destinations and remote villages to experience the
natural habitats and to bring income to people. It also offer extensive environmental awareness
promotions to mitigate natural environmental exploitations. Therefore, ecological tourism can help in
the preservation of natural surroundings from over commercialization.
In some countries, teenagers have jobs while they are still students. Do you think this is a good idea?
Some people think that teenagers need to work while they are students. However, others believe that young
people should not combine their education with a job. These two options are controversial ones. In my
opinion, they both have disadvantages and advantages. I base my opinion on the following points.
On one hand, a working student has many benefits. First of all, such a student learns how to arrange his time
to be able to combine his study time and working schedule. Personally, I think that it is a very important
benefit a student can get from this. Second of all, a student learns how to save money and manage his
budget. A person gains new experience and knowledge working with the new people. He feels more
independent and spends his or her money wisely.
On the other hand, a student who works might not have enough time to meet his or her course requirements.
Sometimes it may result in a failure on an exam and that would be a waste of money and time. From my
everyday experience and observation, some people require more time to study new materials and prepare for
an exam. Others, on the contrary, can easily understand new materials and they need less time. So, my point
is that a person should decide for himself whether he will be able to combine his study and his work or not.
Another important aspect of getting a job is that a student most likely will have no time for parties, movies
and his friends. I think that he or she should understand this fact.
To conclude, I believe that a working experience will give a student more benefits in the future than it takes
from him or her in the present.
Teamwork offers a lot of benefits in modern society. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Of late, teamwork is gaining a lot of significance. On a closer observation of the job postings by leading
companies, we find that they require talented individuals who are also team players. Many people support
this new norm. I also welcome this idea. In the following paragraphs, I shall put forth the explanations in
support of my opinion.
Brainstorming is essential for the generation of new ideas. Scientists generally arrive at a conclusion after
deep debates and conversations. The problem that had been very difficult to solve in isolation may become
easier to solve with the assistance of others. People with a different perspective induce revolutionary
thinking. Teamwork boosts the morale of an individual. Recent studies show that people were much happier
to solve problems as a team. Also, collaboration fosters a learning spirit. It reduces the burden of work.
Research has shown that herculean tasks are accomplished when two people work together rather than a
competent individual working on it alone.
A single person cannot have all the prowess needed to complete a task. For example, person A may be
having exceptional coding skills in area A but may lack expertise in area B. So, person A needs to be
complemented by another person skilled in area B. In the process, person A acquires knowledge of area B
and vice-versa. So teamwork helps in skill-building. They may start feeling more worthy of their
competencies while they educate each other. Also, they may become courageous to explore new zones by
the encouragement provided by their teammates.
Properly managed teams can be remarkably productive, albeit the argument that teamwork might relax
ownership on a task.
In conclusion, teamwork promotes individual growth and achieves goals of the organisation. Under the right
supervision, teams can accomplish tenfold more than what is expected out of them.
Many people think that classes teaching life skills for students should be included in school’s
curriculum. Do you agree with this idea?
Some people hold a belief that schools should be a place where students study academic subjects to pass
examinations rather than learn skills such as dressing and cookery. In my opinion, despite the significance of
academic study and exams, students should also be taught fundamental life skills.
On the one hand, studying academic knowledge is vital for students in many ways. First, examination results
are essential for students’ academic record. With good results, they will have an advantage in the national
high school exams in which their academic performance after many years of study is considered. Second,
academic subjects equip students with fundamental knowledge that will be used in tertiary education. For
example, most undergraduates in Vietnam are supposed to pass subjects, such as Microeconomics and
Advanced Mathematics, which are comprised of mathematical knowledge taught at high school. Without a
deep understanding, students may fail the final exams and have to study these subjects again, which is time-
consuming and costly.
However, there are several reasons why students still need to learn practical skills. For instance, when
college students live far from family, life skills such as cooking will be helpful since students will be able to
prepare healthy and affordable meals on their own instead of eating out at restaurants. Attending skill
building classes at school is also an effective way for students to unwind after many hours of studying
academic subjects. Through a wide range of activities, students are able to relax and as a result perform
better in exams.
In conclusion, I disagree that students should only study academic subjects because both academic
knowledge and practical skills are equally important and should be taught at school.
Many people prefer to communicate with their online friends than to socialize with people in their
local communities. Do you think it has more advantages than disadvantages?
Task 1:
Modern society uses to communicate through social media and online platforms. Some people are keener on
meeting new friends online rather than in person. This essay will explain my perspective along with some
clarifying examples.
To begin, the Internet has created new and faster means of communication. Thanks to social media, such as
Facebook or Instagram, for instance, there is no need to travel from one place to another to talk with people
all around the world . As well as this, students or workers who live abroad have the possibility to keep in
touch with their relatives in real-time. Therefore, it is easier to communicate because there is no need to wait
for hand-written letters to reach their final destination. On one hand, during the pandemic, online platforms,
like Zoom or Google Meet, allowed many families to talk with their loved ones. Moreover, in this period,
social platforms were fundamental for kids to take classes.
On the other hand, when it comes to the business field, it would appear that such technologies play an
essential role in smoothing the communication between employers and managers. This leads to a better and
more productive work environment. E-mails, for instance, allow both the directors and the staff members to
pass information easily about meetings or important events. Hence, job-seekers must be well-versed in using
these technologies in order to meet the qualifications of the modern job market.
In conclusion, I opine that the Internet enables people to communicate with each other smoothly and that it is
vital not only for private life but also for career life.
Task 2
Wibecaith the rapid growth of technology, the world has come a long way . The Internet considers the best
invention in today's world . The Internet makes our life much easier . We can communicate with our dear
ones through social media apps like WhatsApp, Instagram , Facebook and many more . The effects of this
technology have been universally acknowledged . There are many conflicting arguments related to this
issue . Nowadays it's very common to see that folks prefer to talk with their friends online than have a
conversation face to face . The popularity of face-to-face conversation slightly decreased in the current
scenario . whether to agree or not it's a tough-provoking question. As far as I can see it is more justified to
agree with the crowd who is comfortable with online communication. .in upcoming paragraphs, I will not
only shed light on both sides but also elaborate on my point of view regarding the issue.
To embark, if we have a deep look at the statement we will certainly be able to identify a good number of
reasons why individuals prefer online platforms over meeting them in real. First and foremost, with the help
of different communication apps individuals can talk with their family and friends without leaving their
room .
These technologies also give us the opportunity to video call people . Secondly, meeting people ,in reality,
can be very tough because of a hectic work schedule . people can't make time to meet in person it's very
time-consuming on the other hand they can make a call or text them any time anywhere. For instance, people
can wish people exactly 12am on their birthday via video call which can be very hard to go and wish them in
real . Furthermore, the online platform gives us the opportunity to communicate with people from all
around the globe which helps us to improve our social skills . apps like Facebook and Instagram have users
across the globe . With such apps, we can be friends with people from other counties . For example, I use
Instagram to communicate with others . I'm not very fluent in English so I made friends from overseas who
speak English . Talking with them really help me a lot and improved my speaking skills a lot
On the paradoxical side, we can't deny the fact that this technology has some drawbacks as well . Firstly, it
makes people lazy . people hardly go outside to make friends or play with them as they used to play in the
playground in past. It can lead them to several health problems such as obesity. Secondly , this makes people
antisocial . People become so comfortable on those apps that they don't even try to make friends in real . For
example, nowadays it's very hard to make friends in real because individuals hardly speak to each other .
In conclusion , there are conflicting arguments related to technology across the globe . As far as I can see it
has more benefits than drawbacks .with a little control and contribution of the nation these advantages can
easily outweigh the drawbacks.
How to live independently
How to live independently is, probably, one of the questions that are most frequently asked by people, young
and old. According to experts, there are a number of steps that people who want to become independent
should follow. Below are some of them.
First, you should believe in yourself. That is the first and most important condition to make others
believe in you. If you don't have faith in yourself, you will always turn to others for help every time you
have to make a decision. Believing in yourself will make you trust your own decisions, even if they
completely go against someone else's.
Second, get your own information. You should watch and read the news from different sources. It's
important to read as much as possible, whether it is literature or daily newspapers. The information you get
from reading will allow you to get both sides of every story before you form an opinion. Being well-
informed will keep you from being a follower and will lead to more independent thought.
Third, maintain solid friendships. You don't have to reject people as friends to be independent. .In fact,
your independence is reinforced with good friends. When your friend needs someone to talk to, be there
for them, and listen to their problems with sympathetic and understanding attitude. This way, you will not
only help your friends, but their stories will help you to learn how to deal with similar situations that may
come up to you later in your life.
Some people think that in the modern world we are more dependent on each other, while others think that
people have become more independent. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
People have different views about whether we are more or less dependent on others nowadays. In my view,
modern life forces us to be more independent than people were in the past.
There are two main reasons why it could be argued that we are more dependent on each other now. Firstly,
life is more complex and difficult, especially because the cost of living has increased so dramatically. For
example, young adults tend to rely on their parents for help when buying a house. Property prices are higher
than ever, and without help it would be impossible for many people to pay a deposit and a mortgage.
Secondly, people seem to be more ambitious nowadays, and they want a better quality of life for their
families. This means that both parents usually need to work full-time, and they depend on support from
grandparents and babysitters for child care.
However, I would agree with those who believe that people are more independent these days. In most
countries, families are becoming smaller and more dispersed, which means that people cannot count on
relatives as much as they used to. We also have more freedom to travel and live far away from our home
towns. For example, many students choose to study abroad instead of going to their local university, and this
experience makes them more independent as they learn to live alone. Another factor in this growing
independence is technology, which allows us to work alone and from any part of the world.
In conclusion, while there are some reasons to believe that people now depend on each other more, my own
view is that we are more independent than ever.
In recent times, many people are making the decision to live alone.
What are the causes of this? Does it have positive or negatives effects on society?
Task 1:
There has been a tendency in many countries over recent years for more people of all ages to choose to live
alone. This essay will discuss the reasons for this and explain why this can have both advantages and
disadvantages for society.
One reason for this trend is economic. People are generally more affluent than in the past, and this means
that they can afford to make the choice to live alone, something not always possible in the past. In addition
to this, there are also cultural factors. There used to be more pressure to marry young and think about having
a family. Now though, people desire self-fulfilment, and will marry later or divorce if their marriage is not
happy. Also, the developments in communication technology such as social media mean that people can live
alone but still feel connected to others.
I would argue that this development has positive and negative impacts on society. A positive impact is that
those individuals who are young and single have helped to revitalise cities around the world, as they are
more likely to live in central locations and socialise, spend money and participate in public life than those
living with others. However, a drawback is that some people living alone who experience problems may not
have an outlet to talk about them. This lack of social support could lead to more mental health problems in
the general population, which would need to be dealt with by public health care services.
To conclude, economic and cultural factors, and changes in communication have resulted in more people
living alone, and, although this has benefits to society, there are also negative impacts.
Task 2:
In recent years it has become far more normal for people to live alone, particularly in large cities in the
developed world. In my opinion, this trend could have both positive and negative consequences in equal
measure.
The rise in one-person households can be seen as positive for both personal and broader economic reasons.
On an individual level, people who choose to live alone may become more independent and self-reliant than
those who live with family members. A young adult who lives alone, for example, will need to learn to cook,
clean, pay bills and manage his or her budget, all of which are valuable life skills; an increase in the number
of such individuals can certainly be seen as a positive development. From an economic perspective, the trend
towards living alone will result in greater demand for housing. This is likely to benefit the construction
industry, estate agents and a whole host of other companies that rely on homeowners to buy their products or
services.
However, the personal and economic arguments given above can be considered from the opposite angle.
Firstly, rather than the positive feeling of increased independence, people who live alone may experience
feelings of loneliness, isolation and worry. They miss out on the emotional support and daily conversation
that family or flatmates can provide, and they must bear the weight of all household bills and
responsibilities; in this sense, perhaps the trend towards living alone is a negative one. Secondly, from the
financial point of view, a rise in demand for housing is likely to push up property prices and rents. While this
may benefit some businesses, the general population, including those who live alone, will be faced with
rising living costs.
In conclusion, the increase in one-person households will have both beneficial and detrimental effects on
individuals and on the economy.
Some people view conflict between teenagers and parents as a necessary part of growing up, while others
view it as something negative which should be avoided. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Task 1:
It is a myth that there is a generation gap between parents and teenagers, making the two sides unable to
understand each other. Therefore, conflicts are getting more common in home life, which concerns many
people about the negative and unpredictable consequences of those. However, some think that conflicts play
a key role in children’s growth.
In a debate, each side tries to point out the other’s mistakes and give as strong support as possible. Thus, in a
conflict, teenagers get a chance to recognize their merits which are pointed out by their parents. On top of
that, parents can understand how their children think about them and their mental development, paving the
way for easier upbringing.
Nevertheless, some say that conflicts are by no means good because it can lead to teenagers’ rebellious
streak. They will get away from home unless parents find the way to prevent the escalation of the conflict.
Then, under peer pressure they tend to listen to their friends more than they do to their parents. And it is
serious if their friends are bad and encourage them to commit crimes.
In short, although an argument lets teenagers know how immature they are, when it turns to a conflict, the
gap between parents and teenagers will be widen, resulting in wrong thoughts and actions of these
adolescent individuals. It is recommended that conflicts should be lessened as much as possible by the
responsibility of both parents and their children.
Task 2:
The conflict between teenagers and parents increases as they move into adulthood. This inevitable trend is
common even amongst healthy teenagers and can be distressing for both parents and the child. Teenagers
may feel that their parents have become more controlling and irrational. In turn, parents wonder why
their child has become ruthless and hostile. Although this process of maturing may seem destructive, I
believe that it is a necessary part of growing up.

Firstly, the conflict indirectly promotes a shared feeling which in turn, promotes a bond between the
teenager and the parents. It is evident, from scientific research, that an individual feels a sense of emotional
bond after unleashing a certain amount of anger. In the case of good parenting, the teenager can experience a
sense of guilt which leads them to apologising to their parents. This stimulates the positive emotional
attraction between the teenager and the parents, strengthening the family attachment.

Another reason why I believe the conflict is necessary is that teenagers experience an increased level of
hormonal activity as they push through this stage of adolescence. As teenagers experience this higher sense
of independence and responsibility, they also experience increased levels of stress. Not being able to unleash
this anger worsens the case. Therefore, releasing the anger towards their trusted parents can be seen as
beneficial to the teenager in terms of psychological and emotional health.

On the other hand, there is an argument that conflict can stimulate and provoke violence amongst teenagers.
As both parties become distressed from the consistent exchange of argument, the level of the dispute may
increase, leading to violence at home. As this holds true, this can be prevented by good parenting. The
parents should be authoritative, warm and firm, demonstrating a higher level of social competence. They
should permit their teenage sons and daughters to develop their own opinions and beliefs instead of being
controlling and intrusive.

To sum up, although the conflict between teenagers and parents can be perceived as a negative process of
growth, I believe that this conflict is inevitable and a necessary part of growing up. Through good parenting
and understanding of the children, the conflict is not the issue certain people proclaim it to be.
Some people think that students should be allowed to love at school. Do you agree or disagree?
Everyone has the human rights of freedom, living and loving. However, loving at school has been a
controversial topic. To the best of my knowledge, students are not allowed to love at school.
First and foremost, falling in love soon may have bad affect on students’ studying. Seeing that they spend so
much time on chatting or going out for date with their partner, the time for their learning will be restricted.
For example, as a usual, they must self-study at home about two or three hours per day. Now, there is no
time or a little time for their studying. As a result, it will make their schoolastic result worse and worse.
In the second place, loving at this age can make damage both physically and mentally when students have
relationship, intimacy and go over allowed limit. When it comes to the topic of loving at school, most of
people have a low opinion of this. For example, parents will go to great lengths to prevent their child from
falling in love soon, the people around them will object to their love because they think that loving at school
is very bad. A child at this age is very sensitive so they don’t have enough confidence to face up to these
criticisms. Therefore, they can easily suffer from psychological illness or don’t trust in anyone especially
their parents. Almost everyone don’t agree on loving soon, but on the other hand, it brings about some good
affect. At school, some couples always learn together or share with each other sadness and joyness. This not
only makes them become more happy but it also makes their life more beautiful.
All in all, despite my approval of not giving the students permit to love at school, I still think everyone
should one time try to express their thoughts and emotions to the person they love. Loving soon is not as
black as it is painted, whether it is good or bad depends on the way students love right or wrong.
