1. Is the Liturgical Calendar the same as the Calendar Year? Why? (10 pts)
No, the liturgical calendar and the calendar have differences that distinguish it from
each other. A similarity that they both share would be the utilization of time periods, but
differ in seasons and use. The liturgical calendar starts on the first Sunday of Advent,
composed of six liturgical seasons namely: Advent, Christmas, Ordinary Time after
Epiphany, Lent, Easter, and Ordinary time after Pentecost. Each season isn’t constant
as they depends on feasts that vary yearly, resulting in a varied length each year. The
purpose of the liturgical calendar is to mark the life and mystery of Jesus Christ from His
incarnation, birth, death, resurrection, ascension and His return. The calendar year has
a simpler use and measurement of time as it comprises 12 months, that starts in
January 1st ending in December 31st , its purpose is to tell the passage of time over the
year, and to indicate which season it currently is whether Winter, Spring, Summer, and
Fall, though in the Philippines due to our Geographical location are only confined to two
seasons namely Rainy and Dry.
