A. The use of the passé composé tense The passé composé, as its name suggests, is a past tense.

It therefore expresses an action or fact that has already taken place at the time we are speaking.
Examples:

 Nous avons mangé. (We have eaten.)


 Elles sont arrivées. (They have arrived.)

B. The construction of the passé composé It is a compound tense, which means that the
conjugated form uses the auxiliary verb "être" or "avoir" conjugated in the present indicative
and the past participle of the verb to be conjugated.
