THE REASON OF DISMANTLING GEAR BOX ;

The starboard main engine's gear box was disassembled as it did not engage and

did not release when partially engaged.

DAMAGES FOUND AFTER OPENED UP AND INSPECTION ;

1- Lubricating oil was very dirty and colour was black,

2- There were some metal particulars inside crancase which it came from clutch.

3- Friction disc were worned out both surface complately

4- Some of the steel plates discs worned out.

5- Springs of discs were lost tension

6- Some of the ball bearings need to replace.

7- Clutch case colour has been changed to black due to thermal stress.

8- Lubricating oil strainer was blocked with sludge and metal particulars.

9- Due to the excessive heat caused by the friction in the clutch, the lubricating oil burned and
caused the oil to become dirty.

10- Carbon residues and metal particles in oil caused scratches in bearings.

11- Carbon residues and metal particles in oil have also damaged hydraulic slide valves

The clutches were full of sludge, so the disc's were unable to move freely.

The interior of clutch was completely cleaned. friction disc and steel discs were

collected by renewing and clearences adjusted.
