This document discusses common issues with block work on construction sites and provides standards and procedures to address them. It identifies discrepancies like using unapproved materials and manufacturers, improper storage, and failing to test blocks. Specific issues covered include not applying damp proof courses, exceeding laying rates, and not using reinforced mesh properly. The document outlines requirements like material approval, proper storage, compliance testing frequency, and laying damp proof courses. It emphasizes the need to follow specifications, regulations and standards to ensure quality block work.

Introduction During this session, we will present some of the discrepancies noticed on construction sites regarding Block Work.
We will discuss the causes of such
discrepancies, the proper standard sampling and testing procedures and the influence of those discrepancies on the quality of work. Block Work Discrepancies: Using un approved material Using un approved manufacture Improper storage of Block Work Blocks delivered to site is not tested for compliance at specified frequency in accordance with project specifications, international standards and authority regulations requirements. Blocks that fails to meet the specifications is used without taking the necessary corrective actions Not applying the DPC in the first layer Block Work Cement & Sand mortar were not properly mixed upon a clean platform. Using un approved manufacture Using Broken blocks Test reports do not comply with standard requirements Not conducting all required tests by standards (Physical properties & Chemical) are being conducted. The rate of laying per day exceeds the maximum specified height as per standard Not using The galvanized wire mesh or not distributed in organized way as per the project specification Block Work Requirements and Standard Procedures: Material submittal to be approved by the consultant before delivering and using the material Make sure that the manufacture of Blocks have approval from DM Mill certificate to be provided with each delivery Store the materials properly( as per standard). Follow the frequency of tests as per project specification, local regulations and relevant international standards Laying the DPC when it is required (to prevent a slip joint of differential movement between the slab and walls and provides moisture barrier) Block Work Test reports should contain all required information as per the standard. Cement & Sand mortar were should properly mixed upon a clean platform Using The galvanized wire mesh and distributed in organized way as per the project specification Block Work
