1 Study Sources 1 and 2.

(a) From Source 1, identify the estimated number of motor vehicles in the world in 2020.

...................................................................................................................................................
1600 million

............................................................................................................................................. [1]

(b) From Source 2, identify two consequences of large numbers of motor vehicles in cities.
Congestion and Noise

...................................................................................................................................................

............................................................................................................................................. [2]

(c) Which consequence of large numbers of motor vehicles in cities do you think is the most
significant? Explain why.

...................................................................................................................................................
Spoilt environments is the most significant consequence of
large number of motor vehicles in the city. this is because it accounts
for ...................................................................................................................................................
all the different kinds of pollution like air and noise pollutions. Additionally, spoilt enviornments make
it difficult for people to live in a city as it can cause severe health issues due to pollution, such as, cancer and
other diseases. People will be forced to migrate away from the city. Finally, as people migrate away from cities
the...................................................................................................................................................
economic activity in the city will reduce, this will impact the country and cause a reduction in economy

(d) Explain why large numbers of motor vehicles in cities is an important global issue.
Large motor vehicles is an important global issue. this is firstly because it leads to the mass usage of fuels
...................................................................................................................................................
that soon get wasted. Fuels are not a renewable source of energy and will soon get depleted, the depletion of fuels
will impact the world as it is a raw material for powering almost all devices.
...................................................................................................................................................
Secondly, Large motor vehicles lead to pollution of the air, air pollution is harmful as sulphur and carbon dioxide
get trapped in the air and can lead tp severe health issues like cancer and other diseases that can often not be cured,
the increase in ...................................................................................................................................................
pollution due to large vehicles can lead to death in this way and reduce the world population

...................................................................................................................................................
Finally, Large numbers of motor vehicles in cities lead to climate change through pollution, climate change is a severe global
issue as many of the glaciers are melting and rivers are drying out, the lack of water available in cities will lead to the stop
of production of goods and services as water is required for almist all processes, this will harm the world economy

(a) ‘We can improve transport in our cities.’

What are the strengths and weaknesses of the argument supporting this claim?

(b) ‘Many people would like to travel by electric bus and tram.’

How could you test this claim?

You should consider the types of information, sources of evidence and methods you might
use.

Firstly, i would like to conduct an online survey open to anyone who uses public transport
...................................................................................................................................................
on a daily basis. Through my survey i would like to find out peoples opinions about electric
busses and trams and how many people use electric buses and trams compared with
other...................................................................................................................................................
types of public transportation. I would ask questions such as, do you prefer electric
buses and trams over other types of transport and what is your opinion of electric buses
and ...................................................................................................................................................
trams?

...................................................................................................................................................
Secondly, i would like to interview the owners of electric bus and tram companies
as well as train companies and other transport forms. I would like to find out the
average amount of tickets sold for each of the types of transport on a daily basis in
...................................................................................................................................................
my city, this would also help me find out if people prefer to travel by electric bus
and trams by comparing the data i recieve
...................................................................................................................................................
Finally, i would like to find data on credible websites UN. Through a process of
...................................................................................................................................................
desk research i would try and find out the growth rate of the electric bus and tram
industry over the last 2 years. I would prepare a chart of the results to analyse the
increasing interest in the industry

3 Study Source 4.

(a) Identify one value judgement from Mio’s statement. Explain why it is a value judgement.
It is right to care for your health.
...................................................................................................................................................
it is in accordance with mios valuea and abides by his morals hence it is a value judgement
...................................................................................................................................................

...................................................................................................................................................

............................................................................................................................................. [2]

(b) Ren argues that government action is the best way to solve transport problems in cities.

(i) Identify one opinion from Ren’s statement.

...........................................................................................................................................
Most people are selfish and think only about themselves.
..................................................................................................................................... [1]

(ii) Explain how well this opinion supports Ren’s argument.

...........................................................................................................................................

...........................................................................................................................................

...........................................................................................................................................

..................................................................................................................................... [2]
Ren tries to explain how governments are the only entities that can help solve transport
problems in cities, explaining why individuals cannot help solve the problem helps Ren
counter the argument of how individuals can help and hence allows her to focus only on governments,
hence the argument supports Rens argument well.

(c) Which argument is more convincing, Mio’s or Ren’s?

Your answer should consider both arguments and you should support your point of view with
their words.

You should also consider:

• the strength of their reasoning and evidence

• their use of language
• the different kinds of information used.
