Industrial

Revolution
Introduction

The Industrial Revolution changed the world forever. Industrial revolution is one of the main
reason london’s population increased by millions. Before industrial revolution things were
made by hand. In the period 1760 to 1830 the Industrial Revolution was largely limited to
Britain. Aware of their head start, the British banned the export of machinery, skilled
workers, and manufacturing techniques. The British monopoly could not last forever,
especially since someht to lure British know-how to their countries. Two english Britons saw
profitable industrial opportunities abroad, while continental European businessmen
souglishmen, William and John Cockerill, brought the Industrial Revolution to Belgium by
developing machine shops at Liège (c. 1807), and Belgium became the first country in
continental Europe to be transformed economically.
Effects on London

Pollution and environmental damage were the obvious consequences of the industrialised
world and the consumerism that followed it. The rise of the machines required vast amounts
of energy to fuel them, and fossil fuels like coal and petroleum were burned to energise the
industry resulting in smog and air pollution. Chemicals were necessary for various processes
leading to the fast rise in the development of industrial parks based on the chemical
manufacturing of such items as dyes, plastics and medicines. Cities were densely populated
and forests and farmlands were cleared to make room for railroads and other infrastructure.
Waste was dumped in rivers and cities were highly polluted. The Great Stink in London in
August 1858 was a noted event during which the hot weather worsens the smell of
untreated human waste and industrial effluent that was present on the banks of River
Thames.
Overall Effects on London and its People

The Industrial Revolution made a massive impact on the population of london. It increased by
millions of people. It had a positive effect on the population but a negative impact on the
environment. There were more pollution than now. People’s lifespan were also decreased to 30.
Kids also had to go to work above age of 10. People thought it was a good idea to send them to
work because they can reach inside machines and repair the machine. Pollution and
environmental damage were the obvious consequences of the industrialised world and the
consumerism that followed it. The rise of the machines required vast amounts of energy to fuel
them, and fossil fuels like coal and petrol were burned to energise the industry resulting in smog
and air pollution.
Industrial Revolution – present London

The Industrial revolution period had so much pollution in those times. Now people
decreased polluting since they now know it is harmful to the environment. Industrial
Revolution also caused global warming affecting us now. People now have more technology
than before and items are more high-quality. The coming of mechanized production marked
a shift from a mostly agrarian society to a technological one. That shift also brought a
population migration from the country to urban areas, resulting in an explosion in city
populations and a strain on infrastructure. This was most evident in London, which was
arguably the first city affected by the Industrial Revolution as this worldwide event
originated in the London.
