Case Analysis 1

Mr. Rico was a school administrator. One day he was talking in the meeting about
management.
He said among other things:
“One does not have a good quality as a leader, but he must appear to have them.
Maintain a social distance from employees, so they can judge you from a distance
rather than from a close range”
What is the effect of his behavior towards leadership upon employee morale?

ANSWER:

Leadership is an essential quality a leader must possess to lead the team successfully
ability to communicate and build up the morale of his subordinates is one of good
qualities as a leader. Though, in the case above, Mr. Rico, the school administrator
stated that having a good quality as a leader is not necessary, instead, he must appear
to have that kind of disposition that is particular to the leader in order for his
subordinates to follow him. This will bring a significant effect to him and to his own
method of leading. Like for an instance, he will not worry anymore enhancing each
quality of a leader instead he will just focus onleading his team as capable as
he could without worrying anything. In short it will not trouble his mind and will
eventually reduce his stress resulting to a better management.

Case Analysis 2

A high school principal has found after investigation that Jayna a student in the Senior
High School was guilty of tearing out pages of library book. When asked why he did it
and said:
“I was behind in my work. I wanted to review for my examination”
Give possible alternatives from dealing with this situation?
Give example of personal experience in which one leads to another?

ANSWER:
Disciplinary actions must be taken, and it must be explain well to Jayna. Also, the
administration must review their Library Process, why would student tear out pages of
library book if he/she could just borrow it, supposing that Jayna’s alibi is true.
Furthermore, to prevent problems and issues like this, students must be well-informed of
the policy and guidelines of the school.
I remember when I was in my grade school, I did a lot of stupid stuffs
and among those there is one unforgettable memory that kept me laughing of how
childish I am. It happened when I am in the verge of thinking on how exactly I'm
going to pass the exam without reviewing. Of course I was a child back then
and I did one obvious solution a child was expected to do, cheating. I am
desperate to somehow pass the exam that's why I cheated. It’s quite humiliating and
disappointing now remembering that past.

Case Analysis 3

Ms. Santos, a schoolteacher used to be very attentive and helpful principal, Mrs. Cruz.
She brought flowers with which she will decorate the boss/s table and often sent some
crabs and prawns to her house when she had plenty from her husband’s harvest. The
two became very close. On her part, Mrs. Cruz gave her preferential assignments such
as assigning her bright sections giving her convenient assignment such as bright sections
or no advisory sections, convenient schedule of classes, etc.
Question: What cultural pattern of human relation are involved in the whole situation?

ANSWER:
In this case, the cultural pattern of human relation involve is Favoritism or in more
specific term, it is Cronyism. Organizational cronyism is defined as the bestowing of
favors to friends, colleagues, and associates based on personal relationships and
connections rather than actual performance standards (Khatri and Tsang, 2003; Turhan,
2014). In the presence of organizational cronyism, certain employees are favored, who
are known as cronies and others are ignored who are known as non-cronies (Khatri and
Tsang, 2003; Khatri et al., 2006; Khatri, 2017). According to the Conservation of Resource
(COR) theory, it can be argued that organizational cronyism exhausts employees’
resources; employees who are ignored and unfavored at the workplace respond with
less positive and more negative behaviors toward completing their tasks. Therefore,
organizational cronyism can be considered as a workplace stressor (Khatri and Tsang,
2003; Turhan, 2014).

Case Analysis 4

A district supervisor used to get some of his teachers together to play mahjong on
Sunday afternoons or evenings. When asked by another district supervisor why he
did this, he said that these teachers like no other human beings need recreation.
How would you explain the outward motivations of the supervisor from the point
of view of value system?

ANSWER:
In my own opinion, I think that one reason the district supervisor was driven to do that
without any hesitation and without him being vigilant was his conviction to believe that
teachers like every other person needs a leisure time for them to enjoy everything they
want putting aside their work momentarily. From the point of view of value system, he
perceived that every workers needs a rest/day off to somehow replenish
their energy for the upcoming tons of works and also a time for socializing and
bonding if they have family or none.

However, the type of recreational activity is not good for teachers. As for my
understanding, Mahjong is considered a form of gambling.
