1. Why is it important for students to become familiar with the use of the two types of grammar?
Prescriptive grammar is necessary because it functions as a guide for the use of grammatical
rules applied in all aspects of the learner's speech, writing, phonetics, etc. The learner with this
type of grammar carries a certainty of how he/she will make use of everything he/she learns
and when expressing it how to keep in mind that it is correct. Likewise in descriptive grammar,
it is important to focus on the fact that we must always keep in mind the use of grammar on a
daily basis, even if we make mistakes, within the margin of error and correction. This type of
grammar focuses on how we could be used by English speakers to communicate and make
sense of what we speak.
1.1. What can happen if learners only communicate using descriptive grammar and teachers
do not reinforce the use of prescriptive grammar?
Speaking English using grammar as explained by descriptive grammar can be fun when
learning it, that is why it is important to emphasize how the rules are applied, if this is not done
by the teacher, it is not using prescriptive grammar which takes care of the use of grammar
correctly supporting the speaker to do it without errors in large numbers.
2. Does a student who is able to speak properly in school, may succeed to communicate and
understand the social language or vice versa?
Yes it can, grammar provides an order that undoubtedly gives us a guideline for expressing
our words that even if sometimes, unintentionally, cannot be applied, it does not fail to
understand what we are trying to do. Children, when they lose their grief, talk and talk in order
to be heard and to try to understand what they are saying, but once they get the hang of it,
they can communicate with each other and understand each other perfectly.
Yes, the key success that I consider paramount in learning a language is to lose fear of what
others think and to lose embarrassment. A student can do any type of activity that involves
him/her in participating in communication with his/her peers.
Example: Participating in contests or extraordinary activities.
Exhibitions and giving support to peers who do not understand something specific, and it is
true because one of the things that makes the student talk, is confidence, when you trust
anyone who wants to share about himself.
