Teaching Dates & Time Quarter First Quarter

I. OBJECTIVES 1. Design a procedure that will identify unknown samples as mixtures or substances.
2. Determine if the given unknown sample is a mixture or substance using the procedure.
3. State reason/basis of classifying the unknown sample as such.

A. Content Standard
The learners demonstrate an understanding of:
The properties of substances that distinguish them from mixtures.

B. Performance Standard The learners shall be able to:

Investigate the properties of mixtures of varying concentrations using available materials in the community for specific purposes.
C. Learning
Competencies/ The learners should be able to:
Objectives 4. Distinguish mixtures from substances based on a set of properties.
(Write the LC Code for (S7MT-Ie-f-4)
each)

pages
2. Learner’s Materials 22-25
pages
3. Textbook pages
4. Additional Materials
from Learning
Resource (LR) portal
c. PROCEDURES
A. Elicit -reporting of attendance and preparations by group leaders
Recall on the kind of mixtures and properties of solution.
B. Engage Teacher will show pictures of materials used everyday and students will identify if it is a substance or mixture.

C. Explore Students will collaborate on doing

Activity 3 My Unknown Sample: Substance or Mixture?
Day 1- designing of procedure
Day 2- Execution of the activity using the designed procedure.
(The unknown sample will be supplied by the teacher and will use the locally and often use materials at home like vinegar, MSG, etc..)
D. Explain
PART 1 -Presentation/Critiquing of the designed procedure
PART II- Presentation and discussion of the result of the activity in identifying samples

E. Elaborate
Discussion on the ways of distinguishing characteristics of substances and mixtures
Soliciting ideas of students on other ways of determining materials if it is a sample or mixture and importance of properly identifying materials.
