Self-Assessment of Teacher Leader Qualities


Directions: For each element, rate yourself in one of the following three categories. Then provide examples of your experiences in the
leadership domain. Finally, identify areas within each domain where you are interested in growing as a teacher leader. On the last page,
summarize your strengths and areas of possible growth. Boxes will expand as needed.
 Exploring/Emerging (E/E) - a level of practice in which the teacher leader relies on ongoing assistance from more experienced
colleagues for support, guidance, and survival. The teacher leader is moving toward becoming more self-directed and independent in
her/his practice.
 Applying (A) - a level of practice in which the teacher leader is able to provide independent leadership and easily applies what s/he
has learned about leadership.
 Integrating/Innovating (I/I) - a level of development in which the teacher leader is fully skilled and confident. The

publication in professional journals.

Domain 1: Fosters a Collaborative Culture to Support Educator Development and Student Learning E/E A I/I

When presenting to faculty I try to use the same types of


skills that I use when teaching students. I model checking for

Working with coworkers we noticed that students seem to


have certain biases against different groups of people. we
implemented a no tolerance policy for the n-word and we
have been working to promote meaningful lessons so that
students understand the history and lives of the groups that
they are showing biases toward.

since the beginning of the school year. we are collaborating

they need from the program. we just acquired the program
news Ela and we have just started piloting that program as
well.

I work closely with the school counselor in order to ensure


that students are in the correct classes and that they're
learning needs are being met. I've advocated several times
for students to be moved into or out of the honors class as
well as worked with students and spoke to them about their
educational goals and helped guide them.

learning community focused on school improvement goals.

This year I have been working on asking for things when I


need them for my class. I have always had personal issues
with asking for money but I spoke with my VP and he told me
to look at it as advocating for my students rather than asking
for help. Since then even through it is still very difficult for
me I have asked for 2 PBS videos on American Poets, 2
professional development conferences and several books for
students.

Summary of Strengths and Areas of Possible Growth


I think that I have been doing well with the leadership this year. It is easier for me to do more leadership type things for the
school but I feel that I still have a lot of room for growth. Sometimes I need to stop tripping over my own insecurities and
personal issues to be a strong leader.
