The assignment

An industrial hall (16 x 30m) is constructed using pinned porches. The distance between the porches is 5m. And the
roof has an angle of 2°. The cross-sections are the following:

• The columns (dark blue) are HEA 280.

• The beams/ rafters are IPE 400, plus haunches 0,4m x 1m.
• The purlins (pink) are HEA 100 and defined as hinged.
• The façade columns (dark green) are HEA 180.
• The wind braces (lime) are L 50x50x5 and defined as tie rods.

The quest of the first lesson is to design the orange porch in the middle of the hall. The quest of the second lesson is
to design the entire hall. The design will be performed according to Eurocode. Assume that the sheeting on the roof
prevents lateral torsional buckling of the upper flange of the beams and that the purlins act as a lateral torsional
buckling support for the lower flange of the beams.

The following loads should be taken into account:

• Self-weight
• Dead load: 1,2kN/m²
• Snow: 0,32kN/m²
• Wind: 0,6kN/m²
o In the first lesson: wind from left to right on the left column
o In the second lesson:
 Wind from left to right on the left columns
 Wind from front to back on the first end frame.
