A Frightening Experience

“Ahh…”I screamed as a ghostly hand that was plastered against the window
waved frantically at me. Without hesitation, I turned off the television. That scene reminded
me of a similar incident that occurred a few days ago…

Dark, gloomy clouds covered the bright blue morning sky, blotting out the
bright sun. I had just got back from my three-hour long tuition. My eyelids were heavy and I
dragged my feet up the stairs, I trudged home. Once in my bedroom, I slumped onto my
thick, soft bed. My mother was in the kitchen, preparing my brother’s favourite pancakes
for him to eat after his tuition.

Not long after, the skies opened up and it started raining cats and dogs.
Lightning flashed across the sky, thunder clashed violently. The rain fell heavily like the
heartbeat of an athlete, clogging up the drains. In addition to the rain, I heard loud
scratching noises coming from my bedroom window. I thought, “It could be Mother
scratching the frying pan while making brother’s pancakes.” I was on the verge of falling
asleep when I was rudely woken up by something at window. There was a ghostly looking
hand plastered on the window of my room. I regretted watching ‘Home Alone’ because the
hand outside my window looked like the hand from the horror movie.

The hand started moving frantically as if it was waving at me. Petrified, I

headed for the kitchen flying down the stairs. “Mum…Mum! I saw a ghost!” I shouted, my
face as white as a sheet.” “Let us go and find out who and what is it,” Mother squeezed my
shoulder reassuringly. We were at the door, when we saw … my elder brother. He was
climbing through my bedroom window. He laughed sheepishly and explained that because
he had forgotten to bring his keys, he was trying to get my attention by waving his hand
outside my window. All of us had a good laugh.

Since then, this frightening experience was etched in my mind because I was
always scared of ghosts. My brother always remembered to bring his keys with him
wherever he went from then on as he did not want to frighten me anymore.
