Hardfacing Services

Cutting & Wear’s hardfacing portfolio is wide ranging. As hardfacing specialists we have supported
the oil and gas industry with their specific requirements since 1968. Whether it is our renowned
QuickTip process, composite rod application, brazing or hardbanding, you can be assured of quality
and attention to detail at every stage.

QuickTip HF3000
Cutting & Wear, the inventors of the QuickTip process,
provides high wear resistance with the toughness
required for downhole tools.

QuickTip allows for a great deal of flexibility, giving the

user options in the size, spacing and layout of inserts
as well as a huge range of insert types; from standard
tungsten carbide through to diamond impregnated inserts
and now our exclusive TSP Xtreme Diamond inserts
which combine the performace and wear protection of
diamond with the ease of QuickTip application.

Composite Rod
SupaCutt and SupaCutt Xtreme tungsten carbide composite rods are applied
extensively to downhole tools for metal cutting applications. Their versatile
nature means that they can be used on their own, or can be combined with our
proprietary milling inserts and used on a wide variety of tools such as casing
shoes, junk mills, section mills and coiled tubing mills. Special grades, including
rods manufactured using Sharkstooth and StarCutt inserts are available for
especially demanding applications.

Our SupaWear composite rod is ideal for wear resistant application on downhole
tools, principally stabilizers, and often in conjunction with our tungsten carbide
inserts.

Brazing
Brazing is an important process in downhole tool manufacture, whether it
is low temperature silver soldering of PDC inserts for cutting structures,
or higher temperature brazing of tungsten carbide cutting inserts on Fishing
tools.

Cutting & Wear offer this service using internal application methods of
oxyacetylene torches, induction heating and furnace brazing.

Research, Design & Development

At Cutting & Wear we strive to continuously improve our activity in hardfacing and engineering
services. Using our on the job experience we work hard to design, develop and manufacture new
products for the sector. We are also able to use our facilities and expertise to support clients with
progressing their own projects.

Design
Innovation in down hole drilling tool design can be demonstrated by the range
of products that we have developed. By using SolidWorks 3D CAD our highly
experienced team have capabilities that range from draughting services through
to digitally-based design and manufacture of prototype tools ready for testing.
Combining our FEA and CFD analysis with our testing services we are uniquely
positioned to help all organisations from start-ups to large service companies
turn their ideas into reality. We have worked with large service companies and
start-ups alike to turn their ideas into reality.

Testing Services
We pride ourselves on our robust testing facilities. Our research and

Flow Loop
Cutting & Wear have developed a bespoke tool testing facility. This configuration
allows for the flow testing of tools. The flow loop consists of 2 engine pump sets,
an Oilwell 220P driven by a 725HP engine and a Ross D-175 driven by a 192HP
engine. Other flow/pressure configurations are available with alternative liners.

The flow loop is fully instrumented using national instruments and all data can
be viewed live, as well as downloaded for further analysis at a later date. Get in
touch to find out more about hiring this facility.
