IV. Project Summary

Many studies suggest that being adequately hydrated ensures the brain
functions optimally. For students, it means greater clarity and focus, enabling them to
think and absorb lessons faster while improving their concentration levels.
With the recent spread of diseases that are threatening human life globally,
there are many factors out of our control. However, one factor that we can control is
the quality of water, ensuring that schools and other establishments can offer pure and
safe drinking water to all. Schools, in particular, should ensure that clean and pure
drinking water is available for students 24/7. This will help keep many health-related
risks at bay.
According to UNESCO, a good quality education is the foundation of healthy
and well- being. For children and adolescents to learn they need to be well-nourished
and healthy. This global organization is committed to strengthening the links between
education and health. That is why our innovative project work plan was
conceptualized, planned and coordinated with the School Parents Association,
Barangay Council, LGU and the whole community of Mataas na Paaralang Juan C.
Laya School San Manuel, Pangasinan. This project will be conducted from
December 2022-August 2023 with Project Partners. The estimation cost of the project
is Php 5,500.00 this will be shouldered through donations and personal fund from the
proponent for the procurement of water dispensers.

V. Project Background:

Research shows a strong connection between healthy behaviors and academic

achievement. Healthy students are better learners, and academic achievement bears a
lifetime of benefits for health. Recent research illustrates that higher academic grades
are associated with more positive individual and cumulative health behaviors among
high school students. However, youth risk behaviors, such as physical inactivity,
unhealthy dietary behaviors, tobacco use, alcohol use, and other drug use are
consistently linked to poor grades and test scores and lower educational attainment.

The Department of Education is implementing various intervention programs

to provide support to Filipino learners both in the formal and informal education. In
support to all of these programs, learner’s health and well- being need to be given
attention to. Our innovative project focuses on water as healthier drink in school. As
we all know getting enough water everyday is important in our health. Drinking
water can prevent dehydration and other illnesses.

DepEd recognizes mental health, emotional and physical well-being of

learners and personnel as well. In coordination with the parents and other
stakeholders, LGU and Barangay officials, several programs/ projects were
conceptualized to cater the needs of the learners.

It has this purpose then that this innovative work plan will be conducted at
Mataas na Paaralang Juan C. Laya, San Manuel, Pangasinan for the SY 2022-2023.
The main objective of this project is to procure water dispensers to be used by the
students and school personnel and to make drinking water a habit of everyone to
make every LCLyans healthy and well physically. This will surely of great help of
them to gain an avenue in education and get everyone aware that health is wealth.

VI. Project Objectives

There are many challenges that hinder the learners/participants and

proponents to make the project successful. One of which is the lack of time,
because of their other duties and responsibilities. Forgetting their own water
tumbler is another challenge. However, if learners will be oriented how the
activities will help them in their future especially on their health and how to turn
their new learning into profitable activity to suffice their needs, the goal is not
difficult to achieve. It will be a great motivation for them to pursue accomplish

The framework includes intermediate outcomes which represents what

DepEd endeavors learners to achieve in terms of access and quality during
the pandemic. The enabling environment defined the necessary governance
structure in terms of leadership investment, management, and partnership that
will ensure the effective delivery of the basic education needs of the learners.

X . NEXT STEPS
Although the concept of sustainability of this project is still in its infancy, the
school is surreal of its wider and longer coverage of implementation. Different factors
are considered too to necessarily support and sustain the project by ensuring a steady
flow of funds for maintaining and continuing the work plan, and following the
working guidelines or matrix that were developed.
Discussion of the various processes and mechanisms can also ensure
sustainability of the program in consideration of the following:
Long term vision: Well-explained project goal and its processes to all
potential donors, resources and support required are guaranteed.
Integrate the project to all other programs established by the community. This
would help us to develop partnerships and relations with relevant stakeholders.
Communication and Outreach through Social Media: Well documented
project results can help us in getting support from a range of stakeholders and donors
by posting and sharing it on social media.
Involve key stakeholders: Encourage involvement and participation of key
stakeholders in program development, monitoring, and evaluation.
