Nutritional Meal Plan: Macronutrient-Carbohydrates
I. Introduction
Carbohydrates — fiber, starches and sugars — are essential food nutrients that your body turns into
glucose to give you the energy to function. Complex carbs in fruits, vegetables and whole-grain
products are less likely to spike blood sugar than simple carbs (sugars). Low-carb diets like keto can
be high in fats.
Your digestive system breaks down carbs into glucose or blood sugar. Your bloodstream absorbs
glucose and uses it as energy to fuel your body.
The amount of carbs you consume affects blood sugar. Taking in a lot of carbs can raise blood sugar
levels. High blood sugar (hyperglycemia) can put you at risk for diabetes. Some people who don’t
consume enough carbs have low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
II. Objectives
In this experiment, you should be able to plan and prepare a meal for an individual requiring
carbohydrate intake modification and discuss the diet and its implication to the disease condition.
Please be reminded that you will document the process and submit a video output regarding your
experiment.
III. Materials
Not applicable (Dry Laboratory)
IV. Procedure

2. Task: Using a 1500 caloric requirement, calculate and plan a high CHO diet allowing 70 to 80% of
total caloric requirement for carbohydrates. Prepare a sample menu plan for lunch.

4. Complete the post-laboratory questions with solution and submit on designated time via Microsoft
Teams.
