Bucket tooth and tooth adapter and tooth point manufacturing method
{BUCKET TOOTH, METHOD OF MANUFACTURING TOOTH ADAPTOR AND
TOOTH POINT USING OF BUCKET TOOTH}

The present invention relates to a tooth provided at the tip of a bucket of an

excavator.

In general, an excavator, which is a kind of construction machine, is a civil

machine used for mining soil or rock. An arm is provided at the front of the
vehicle body, and a bucket for mining soil or rock is provided at the end of the
vehicle. Here, the arm is rotatably installed through the link member and the
hydraulic actuator, and the bucket is temporarily connected to the tip of the arm
to hold the soil and the rock mined temporarily. At the tip of the bucket, a
plurality of teeth are mounted at regular intervals.

On the other hand, the tooth can be largely divided into a tooth stepper that is
fixedly coupled to the bucket by bolting or welding, and a tooth point that is
coupled to the tooth adapter and directly contacts the excavation surface while
digging the excavation surface. Here, the tooth made of a tooth adapter and a
tooth point is a part which is indirectly or in direct contact with the excavation
surface in order to mine soil or rock, and thus excellent wear resistance and
impact resistance are required.

Conventionally, after adding alloys such as manganese (Mn), chromium (Cr),

nickel (Ni), and molybdenum (Mo) to the azinc cast steel product having a
carbon content of 0.3 wt% or less to improve the wear resistance and impact
resistance of the tooth Tooth adapters and / or tooth points were manufactured
through a heat treatment process of quenching and tempering.

By the way, nickel (Ni) is a very tough material and effective in strengthening
the overall toughness of the tooth, but since it is an expensive material, the
amount added is limited. In addition, the molybdenum (Mo) is effective in
improving the overall wear resistance of the tooth while preventing the temper
brittleness (a phenomenon in which the impact resistance of the product is
sharply lowered due to the tempering treatment), which is a kind of defects
generated during the heat treatment process. (Mo) was also an expensive
material, so the amount added was limited. That is, if the nickel (Ni) and
molybdenum (Mo) is sufficiently added to produce a tooth adapter and / or a
tooth point having excellent wear resistance and impact resistance, there is a
problem that the manufacturing cost increases accordingly.

An object of the present invention is to provide a bucket tooth and a method of

manufacturing a tooth adapter and tooth point used therein, which can exhibit
excellent wear resistance and impact resistance while reducing manufacturing
costs. .

In order to achieve the above object, the present invention includes a tooth
adapter fixed to the tip of the bucket of the excavator and a tooth point coupled
to the tooth adapter to excavate the excavation surface, at least one of the tooth
adapter and the tooth point Is prepared by water treatment of the high
manganese steel composition, the high manganese steel composition, the
carbon (C) 0.9 ~ 1.3% by weight, silicon (Si) 0.01 ~ 0.8% by weight, manganese

The present invention also includes a tooth adapter fixedly coupled to a bucket
tip of an excavator and a tooth point coupled to the tooth adapter to excavate an
excavation surface, wherein at least one of the tooth adapter and the tooth point
is a high manganese steel composition. The high manganese steel composition
is prepared by treatment, the carbon (C) 0.9 ~ 1.3% by weight, silicon (Si) 0.01
~ 0.8% by weight, manganese (Mn) 11-14% by weight, phosphorus ( P) 0.01 to
0.07% by weight, sulfur (S) 0.01 to 0.04% by weight, chromium (Cr) 1.5 to 2.5%
by weight and the balance of iron (Fe) is provided.

The present invention includes a tooth adapter fixed to the tip of the bucket of
the excavator and a tooth point coupled to the tooth adapter to excavate an
excavation surface, wherein at least one of the tooth adapter and the tooth point
is a high manganese steel composition. The high manganese steel composition
is prepared by treatment, based on the total weight of the total composition,
carbon (C) 1 to 1.35% by weight, silicon (Si) 0.01 to 0.8% by weight,

(V) 0.4 to 0.7% by weight and the balance of iron (Fe) To provide.

On the other hand, the present invention provides a tooth adapter and a tooth
point manufacturing method used in the tooth for the bucket, first, the method of
manufacturing the tooth adapter fixedly coupled to the bucket tip of the
excavator, the raw material is heated in the melting furnace to form a high
manganese steel composition Manufacturing high manganese steel
composition to manufacture; Molding the external shape of the tooth adapter by
inserting the manufactured high manganese steel composition into a mold; A
water-treatment step of water-treating the molded tooth adapter in a heat

furnace; Molding the external shape of the tooth point by inserting the
manufactured high manganese steel composition into a mold; A water-
treatment step of water-treating the molded tooth point in a heat treatment

The tooth for a bucket according to the present invention is made of a tooth
adapter and a tooth point manufactured by subjecting a high manganese steel
composition to water treatment, thereby improving the overall impact resistance
and wear resistance of the tooth. In addition, it is possible to provide a tooth

without using nickel (Ni) and molybdenum (Mo), which are expensive raw
materials, thereby reducing the overall manufacturing cost of the tooth.

Hereinafter, a bucket tooth according to the present invention, a tooth adapter

and a tooth point manufacturing method used therein will be described in detail
with reference to the embodiment.

Bucket tooth using high manganese steel composition 1

A tooth for a bucket according to the present invention includes a tooth adapter
fixedly coupled to a bucket tip of an excavator and a tooth point coupled to the
tooth adapter to excavate an excavation surface.

Here, at least one of the tooth adapter and the tooth point is manufactured by
subjecting the high manganese steel composition to water-repellent treatment
to improve the overall wear resistance and impact resistance of the tooth. That
is, at least one of the tooth adapter and the tooth point, or both the tooth
adapter and the tooth point are manufactured by subjecting the high
manganese steel composition to water treatment.

Meanwhile, the high manganese steel composition is obtained by alloying

manganese (Mn) with iron (Fe), which is a main material. According to an
example of the present invention, the high manganese steel composition has
0.9 to 1.3 wt% of carbon (C) based on the total weight of the total composition. ,
0.01 to 0.8% by weight of silicon (Si), 11 to 14% by weight of manganese (Mn),
0.01 to 0.1% by weight of phosphorus (P), 0.01 to 0.05% by weight of sulfur (S)
and residual amount of iron (Fe) .

Carbon (C) is a solid solution to iron (Fe) to perform the role of curing the iron
(Fe) through heat treatment, etc. If the content is outside the range of 0.9 to
1.3% by weight of the tooth adapter and / or the tooth point Since impact
resistance and abrasion resistance can be reduced, it is good to be included in
the said range.

Silicon (Si) is added to the alloy based on iron (Fe) to reduce the plastic
deformation of the substrate and to enhance the wear resistance. Such silicon
(Si) may be included in the high manganese steel composition, but may be
included in an amount of 0.01 to 0.8% by weight in consideration of the impact
resistance and wear resistance of the tooth adapter and / or tooth point.

Manganese (Mn) is a representative austenite (Austenite) region-extending

substance, and serves to induce austenite as a stable tissue at room
temperature by reducing the A3 transformation point. Such manganese (Mn) is
contained in 11 to 14% by weight, when contained less than 11% by weight
does not lead to complete austenitization, and exceeds 14% by weight further
gains in terms of physical properties in consideration of the content ratio with
carbon Since it does not appear, it is good to be included in the said range.

Phosphorus (P) and sulfur (S) do not have to be included in the high
manganese steel composition, but considering the impact resistance and wear
resistance of the tooth adapter and / or the tooth point is included in 0.01 to
0.1% by weight and 0.01 to 0.05% by weight, respectively It is good.

Bucket tooth using high manganese steel composition 2

On the other hand, according to an example of the present invention, the high
manganese steel composition, based on the total weight of the total
composition, carbon (C) 0.9-1.3% by weight, silicon (Si) 0.01-0.8% by weight,
manganese (Mn) 11-14% by weight, 0.01 to 0.07% by weight of phosphorus
(P), 0.01 to 0.04% by weight of sulfur (S), 1.5 to 2.5% by weight of chromium
(Cr) and the balance of iron (Fe).

Detailed description of carbon (C), silicon (Si) and manganese (Mn) is the same
as described in the 'tooth for buckets using the high manganese steel
composition 1' and will be omitted.

Phosphorus (P) and sulfur (S) do not have to be included in the high
manganese steel composition, but considering the impact resistance and wear
resistance of the tooth adapter and / or the tooth point is included in 0.01 to
0.7% by weight and 0.01 to 0.04% by weight, respectively It is good.

Chromium (Cr) is a carbide generating material that increases the hardness of

the tooth adapter and / or tooth point, and serves to increase corrosion
resistance and oxidation resistance. That is, chromium (Cr) can improve the
yield strength as it is included in the high manganese steel composition, when
manufacturing a tooth adapter and / or a tooth point with a high manganese
steel composition containing such chromium (Cr) instantaneous large load The
tooth adapter and / or tooth point which can be applied can be prevented from
being deformed by the load. The chromium (Cr) is included in 1.5 to 2.5% by
weight, the yield strength and oxidation resistance is lowered when the content
of chromium (Cr) is less than 1.5% by weight, the brittleness is increased by
more than 2.5% by weight, the impact resistance is lowered It is therefore good
to be included in the above range.

Bucket tooth using high manganese steel composition 3

On the other hand, according to an example of the present invention, the high
manganese steel composition, carbon (C) 1 ~ 1.35% by weight, silicon (Si) 0.01
~ 0.8% by weight, manganese (Mn) 11-14% by weight, Phosphorus (P) 0.01 to
0.07% by weight, sulfur (S) 0.01 to 0.04% by weight, chromium (Cr) 2 to 3% by
weight, vanadium 0.4 to 0.7% by weight and the balance of iron (Fe).

Detailed descriptions of carbon (C), silicon (Si), manganese (Mn), phosphorus

(P), and sulfur (S) are the same as those described in the 'tooth for buckets
using high manganese steel composition 2', and thus will be omitted. .

Chromium (Cr) is also included to perform a role as described in the 'tooth for a
bucket using a high manganese steel composition 2.' At this time, in
consideration of the content with other elements is preferably included in 2 to
3% by weight. If the content of chromium (Cr) is less than 2% by weight yield
strength and oxidation resistance is lowered, if it exceeds 3% by weight,
brittleness is increased and impact resistance is lowered.

Vanadium (V) refines the grains to increase the toughness of the tooth adapter
and / or tooth point, and generates stable carbide to increase wear resistance of
the tooth adapter and / or tooth point. The vanadium (V) is limited in the amount
of addition because it is a high temperature evaporation when the oxide
V 2 O 3 vapor pressure is high, at least 0.4% by weight in order to limit the
addition amount to 0.7% by weight and to increase toughness and carbide
formation It is good to be included.

Tooth adapters and tooth points made of the high manganese steel composition
described above can improve the impact resistance and wear resistance even
without using expensive nickel (Ni) and molybdenum (Mo). Accordingly, when
the tooth including the tooth adapter and the tooth point is used in the bucket,
the overall impact resistance and wear resistance of the tooth may be improved,
and thus its life may be lengthened.

For reference, a coupling method of the bucket and the tooth may be any one,
and a non-limiting example is the tooth adapter is fixedly coupled to the tip of
the bucket by bolting or welding, and the tooth adapter and the tooth point are
Can be combined in a threaded or bolted manner.

Meanwhile, the tooth adapter and tooth point used in the tooth for the bucket
are manufactured by tempering the high manganese steel composition to
improve impact resistance and abrasion resistance, and a specific
manufacturing method of such tooth adapter and tooth point is used. Referring
to Figure 1 divided into each as follows.

[Manufacturing method of tooth adapter]

1.Manufacturing step of high manganese steel composition <S101>

The raw materials are heated in a melting furnace to produce a high

manganese steel composition. Here, the raw material refers to the above-
mentioned carbon (C), silicon (Si), manganese (Mn), phosphorus (P), sulfur (S),
chromium (Cr) vanadium (V), each composition and its content Is determined
according to the high manganese steel composition 1 to 3. That is, the
manufactured high manganese steel composition is based on the total weight of
the composition 0.9 to 1.3% by weight of carbon (C), 0.01 to 0.8% by weight of
silicon (Si), 11 to 14% by weight of manganese (Mn), phosphorus (P) 0.01 ~ 0.1
wt%, 0.01 to 0.05 wt% sulfur (S) and residual amount of iron (Fe), or 0.9 to 1.3
wt% carbon (C), 0.01 to 0.8 wt% silicon (Si) based on the total composition
weight %, Manganese (Mn) 11-14% by weight, phosphorus (P) 0.01-0.07% by
weight, sulfur (S) 0.01-0.04% by weight, chromium (Cr) 1.5-2.5% by weight and
the balance of iron (Fe) It can be prepared to. In addition, the high manganese
steel composition is 1 to 1.35% by weight of carbon (C), 0.01 to 0.8% by weight
of silicon (Si), 11 to 14% by weight of manganese (Mn), 0.01 to 0.07% by
weight of phosphorus (P), sulfur (S) It may be prepared to include 0.01 to 0.04%
by weight, chromium (Cr) 2 to 3% by weight, vanadium (V) 0.4 to 0.7% by
weight and the balance of iron (Fe).

2. Molding step <S102>

The high manganese steel composition manufactured in the manufacturing step

<S101> of the high manganese steel is introduced into a mold to shape an
external shape of the tooth adapter. At this time. The mold may be made of
sand. In the case of the sand mold, a short treatment may be performed (to
remove the sand by contacting the beads with the tooth adapter surface) in
order to clean the sand on the surface of the molded body.

3. Water treatment step <S103>

The tooth adapter molded in the molding step <S102> is subjected to water
treatment in a heat treatment furnace. The cast tooth adapter is not a complete
austenite structure. Therefore, water treatment is performed to control austenite
grain structure and increase toughness. In this case, water treatment is
performed by heat treatment of the tooth adapter for 1 to 2 hours in a
temperature range of 950 to 1050 ° C., followed by water cooling treatment. Is
done in a way. As such, when the tooth adapter is water-treated, the tooth
adapter can be changed to have a complete austenite structure, thereby
improving toughness and wear resistance. For reference, the temperature for
water-cooling the tooth adapter heat-treated in the heat treatment furnace is
approximately 25 ° C.

4. Tempering step <S104>

Tempering treatment of the tooth adapter treated in the water treatment step
<S103> in the temperature range of 200 ~ 600 ℃. The tooth adapter made of a
high manganese steel composition has excellent impact resistance and
abrasion resistance even if only water treatment is performed, and residual
stress may remain in the tooth adapter subjected to water treatment only.
Therefore, by re-heating the tooth adapter in the temperature range of 200 ~
600 ℃ (preferably 200 ℃) it is possible to remove the residual stress remaining
in the tooth adapter, further improve the ductility and toughness.
[Manufacturing method of tooth point]

1.Manufacturing stage of high manganese steel composition <S201>

Since it is the same as the description of the high manganese steel composition
manufacturing step <S101> of the tooth adapter manufacturing method will be
omitted.

2. Molding step <S202>

Injecting the high manganese steel composition prepared in the manufacturing

step <S201> of the high manganese steel composition to mold the outer shape
of the tooth point, the detailed description is the same as the description for the
molding step <S102> of the tooth adapter manufacturing method is omitted.
Let's do it.

3. Water treatment step <S203>

Since the tooth point formed in the molding step <S202> is subjected to a
water-repellent treatment in a heat treatment furnace, a detailed description
thereof will be omitted because it is the same as the description of the water-
treatment step <S103> of the tooth adapter manufacturing method.

4. Tempering treatment step <S204>

Tempering the tooth point treated in the water treatment step <S203> in the
temperature range of 200 ~ 600 ℃, detailed description is the same as the
description of the tempering step <S104> of the tooth adapter manufacturing
method. It will be omitted.

Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in more detail with reference
to Examples and Test Examples.

[Examples 1 to 3] Tooth adapter used for the tooth for a bucket

To prepare a high manganese steel composition by putting the raw material into
the melting furnace in the composition shown in Table 1, after the high
manganese steel composition was added to the sand mold, after about 8 hours
to shake off the sand to form a tooth adapter. The molded tooth adapter was
heat treated at 1000 ° C. for 1 to 2 hours in a heat treatment furnace, and then
quenched in water to prepare a tooth adapter. At this time, the temperature
quenched in water was 25 ℃ normal temperature.

[Examples 4 to 6] Tooth adapter used for the tooth for the bucket

To prepare a high manganese steel composition by putting the raw material into
the melting furnace in the composition shown in Table 1, after the high
manganese steel composition was added to the sand mold, after about 8 hours
to shake off the sand to form a tooth adapter. The molded tooth adapter was
quenched in water after heat treatment at 1000 ° C. for 1-2 hours in a heat
treatment furnace. At this time, the temperature quenched in water was 25 ℃
normal temperature. The tooth adapter quenched in water was tempered again
at 200 ° C. for 2 hours in a heat treatment furnace, and then cooled in air to
prepare a tooth adapter.

[Comparative Examples 1 to 3]

A low alloy steel tooth adapter manufactured through a general quenching and
tempering process (600 ° C.) was used after molding the tooth adapter using
the composition shown in Table 1 as a raw material.

Test Example 1 Impact Resistance Experiment

Two tooth adapters prepared in Examples 1 to 6 and Comparative Examples 1

to 3 were processed for each of the U-notch specimen types and materials
specified in Table 2 of the KS D ISO 148-1 'Charpy Impact Test of Metal
Materials'. Charpy impact test was performed at room temperature, and the
results are shown in FIG.

Referring to FIG. 2, Examples 1 to 3 are nickel (Ni) and moldidene (Mo),

although only the phosphorus treatment was performed without using nickel (Ni)
and molybdenum (Mo), which are expensive raw materials. It was found that it
had the same energy absorption energy level as Comparative Examples 1 to 3
tempered at 600 ℃. On the other hand, it was found that Examples 4 to 6
tempered at 200 ° C. had better impact absorption energy than Comparative
Examples 1 to 3.

These experimental results indicate that Examples 1 to 6, which do not use

expensive nickel (Ni) and molybdenum (Mo), have better impact resistance than
Comparative Examples 1 to 3. In addition, Comparative Examples 1 to 3 have a
certain degree of impact resistance should be tempered at a temperature of 600
℃, but Examples 4 to 6 according to the present invention shows a very good
impact resistance only by tempering treatment of 200 ℃ in the present invention
The manufacturing efficiency is improved when the tooth adapter is
manufactured by the proposed manufacturing method.

Test Example 2 Wear Resistance Experiment

The tooth adapters prepared in Examples 1 to 6 and Comparative Examples 1
to 3 were processed to the same size in the form of a rectangular parallelepiped
based on the ASTM G65-04 'Standard Test Method for Measuring Abrasion
Using the Dry Sand / Rubber Wheel Apparatus' abrasion test method. By
grinding. Wear tests were performed under the same conditions as in
Procedure A of ASTM G65-04 Table 2. The results are shown in FIG. At this
time, the weight loss before and after the test was divided into the density of
each material was converted into the volume of the finally worn.

Referring to FIG. 3, Examples 1 to 3 show nickel (Ni) and moldidene (Mo),

although only the phosphorus treatment was performed without using nickel (Ni)
and molybdenum (Mo), which are expensive raw materials. It can be seen that
the wear amount was lower than Comparative Examples 1 to 3 tempered at 600
℃. On the other hand, it was found that Examples 4 and 6 tempered at 200 ° C.
also exhibited lower wear than the comparative examples.

These experimental results indicate that Examples 1 to 6, which do not use

expensive nickel (Ni) and molybdenum (Mo), have better wear resistance than
Comparative Examples 1 to 3.

Test Example 3 Impact Resistance and Wear Resistance Test According

to Tempering Treatment Temperature

The impact resistance and wear resistance tests were performed in the same
manner as in Test Examples 1 and 2 by adjusting the tempering treatment
temperature of the tooth adapters prepared in Examples 1 to 3, and the results
are shown in FIG. 4.

Referring to FIG. 4, when tempering the water-treated Examples 1 to 3 was 150

° C. or more, the shock absorbing energy was increased and the wear amount
was decreased. In particular, the impact absorption energy was found to
increase to more than 300J when the tempering temperature is more than 200
℃.

These experimental results indicate that it is effective to lower the water-treated

tooth adapter to a temperature of 150 ° C. or higher. In addition, as the
tempering treatment temperature increases, the amount of abrasion is constant,
and when more excellent impact resistance is required, the tempering treatment
temperature may be increased to 600 ° C. to increase the impact resistance
without deteriorating wear resistance.

On the other hand, while the impact resistance and abrasion resistance was
tested only with Examples 1 to 6 relating to the tooth adapter used for the tooth
for a bucket, even if the tooth point was manufactured and tested with the
above-described high manganese steel composition, it showed excellent impact
resistance and abrasion resistance. It can be self-evident. Of course, it will also
be apparent that the use of a tooth adapter having a tooth adapter and a tooth
point having such excellent impact resistance and wear resistance in the bucket
improves the overall impact resistance and wear resistance of the tooth.
As described above, the detailed description of the present invention has been
made by the accompanying drawings and the embodiment, but the above-
described embodiment is only described with reference to a preferred example
of the present invention, the present invention is limited only to the above
embodiment It should not be understood that the scope of the present invention
is to be understood by the following claims and their equivalent concepts.
