Nature and Background of the dance:


Dance throughout history has taken many forms, and its manifestations taking recreational
activities which brings rhythmic motions and movements, as well as vigorous exercises that
creates a sense of coherence in the dancer’s body.

Dance is one of the oldest forms of art, as the earliest tribal societies practice dance in
ritualistic ceremonies to gain the favor of their respective deities and amplify their ability to
wage war or bring success to their endeavors. While other civilizations dance in religious
ceremonies and festivities, one can only ponder the other uses of such art and its value to the
communities which has staunchly admired the custom.

B. History:
Dance, like all other practices, has been embedded deeply into human history, culture, and
society. The earliest historical records showing the origins of dance are in cave paintings in
India dating to about 8000 BCE. Egyptian tomb paintings also depict dance in about 3000
BCE.

C. Movement:
Bending, pushing or pulling, rising or sinking, shaking, stretching, swinging, swaying,
twisting, and turning.

D. Music:
Music is largely an accessory to dance, one that refines the flavor and emphasizes its beauty as
an accompaniment. Usually, music as an accompaniment helps dancers maintain the same
beat that creates an irreproachable performance.
