Detailed Lesson Plan for Mathematics 7

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. Define polygon
b. Describe the different kinds of polygon according to the number of sides
and angles.
c. Actively participate in the class discussions.
d. Draw related polygon from real-life situation.
II. SUBJECT MATTER
Topic: Different kinds of polygon
Reference: Lerner’s module 7 Mathematics
Materials: Visual aids( manila paper, cut out shapes, cartolina) crayons, bond
paper
Skills: Drawing, creativity
Subject integration: Arts, English

III. PROCEDURE
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Activities
1. Preliminary Activities
a. Prayer Heavenly Father…
Before we start, everybody stand up for
a prayer. The in-charge for today’s prayer,
please lead the class. Good morning Ma’am

b. Greetings
Good morning, class!

c. Checking of Attendance
Class monitor, kindly check the
attendance Last meeting our topic is all about
angles formed when two lines cut by
2. Review
a transversal.
What was our topic last meeting?
The different angles formed when
Now, what are the difference angles two lines cut by a transversal are
formed when two lines cut by a transversal? interior angle, exterior angle,
alternate interior angle, alternate
exterior angle and corresponding
angle.

Very good!
Now, what do you call an angles formed They are called interior angle
that lie between two lines?

How about an angle between any side of a It is an exterior angle ma’am

shape, and line extended from the next
side?

Okay, very good! No ma’am

Now any questions?

If none we will proceed to our new topic,

but before that we will have an activity first.

3. Motivational
I have here a figure that will help you
formulate the definition of a polygon, I paste
on the board. Class take a look at the figure
on the board and study about it.
The following are not polygons.

The followings are polygons

The first group represent figures

which are not a polygons and the 2nd
one are the polygons.
What have you notice in the two groups of
figure? It is all about polygons.

Very good!
Now what do you think our topic this
morning?

Very good!!

4. Statement of aim
Okay, this morning, our lesson is all about
different kinds of polygons.
At the end of the lesson you are expected to:
a. Define polygon
b. Describe the different kinds of
polygon according to the number of They are close figure
sides and angles.
c. Actively participate in the
class discussions.
d. Draw related polygon from Their side is made up of line
real-life. segments joined at their endpoints.

There are three or more line

B. ANALYSIS segments
1. Discussion
What have you notice in the given groups
of polygons? Polygons are close figure made up of
three or more line segments joined at
Very good! What else? What have you their endpoint.
notice on their side?

And s have you notice, how may

minimum number of line segment does a
polygons have?

Very good! Now based on what you have

discovered how would you define
polygons?

Very good! Do you know that polygons Yes ma’am

are named according to the number of Because it is a close figure made up
it’s sides and angles? of three line segment joined at their
endpoint.
Okay! Let’s take a look to this figure.
triangle

A triangle has three sides and has

three angles

Yes ma’am

Can we consider this a polygon?

Why you say so? Yes ma’am

Very good! What do you think the shape

is?

Can anyone tell me what make a triangle

different from other shape?
Quadrilateral
Very good! In addition, we call this as
triangle from the prefix” tri means 3”. it is It has four sides and four angles.
clear?

Let’s proceed with the next figure. Can we

consider this figure as polygon?
Yes ma’am
Very good! Yes ma’am
What polygon do you think is this?

What can you say about it?

Very good!
It is called pentagon
Also, we can name this polygon as
quadrilateral because of its prefix “quad” Because a pentagon has five sides
mean four. and that figure is five-sided polygon.
Understand?

Now, let’s proceed to the next figure.

Can we consider this as a polygon?

Pent means 5

No, ma’am

Now, what polygon is this?

Okay, tell me why it is called pentagon?

Excellent class!

We call this polygon as pentagon because

Yes ma’am
of its prefix “pent” means 5.

Again, what does “pent” mean?

Very good! Any questions?

Next is Hexagon for 6 sides

Heptagon for 7 sides Yes ma’am
Octagon for 8 sides
Nonagon for 9 sides
Decagon for 10 sides A Polygons are close figure made up
of three or more line segments joined
Just familiarize the meaning and sequence
at their endpoint
of the names of polygons class for you to
identify correctly the name of the given sides
of polygon.
The different types of polygons are
Is that clear? triangle, quadrilateral, pentagon,
hexagon, heptagon, octagon,
I know that you’ll find it easy to name and nonagon, and decagon
identify the different types of polygons.
Now in addition, always remember that a
polygons that having equal angle is called
regular polygon, and to those who have not It is a triangle
is called irregular polygons.

Is it clear?
From the prefix “tri” means 3.
C. ABSTRACTION
Based from the discussion, what is a
polygon?
Yes, ?

Very good!
None ma’am
Now, what were the different types of
polygons that we already discuss?

Very good!

Now what type of polygon that having 3

sides and 3 angles?

Very good.

How can you say that a triangle has 3 sides

and 3 angles?

Very good!

(continue until all types of polygon were

identify)

Excellent!

Do you have any questions?

D. APPLICATION
Activity: “Kite Making”
I will group you into 5 groups. I will give you
10m to do the task.
I know everyone is familiar with this activity,
this is to test your learning in this lesson.
After making this activity, we are going to
test your outputs if they are going to fly
outside, and then choose 1 representative of
the group to discuss your output in front.
Those who presents 2 or more polygons
shown in a kite will get plus points.

Direction: Each group will make a kite out of

the polygons was discussed. (Free to choose
your shapes)
Materials:
plastic cellophane/newspaper
stick
yarn

IV. EVALUATION
In 1/2 sheet of paper
Direction: complete the tables below. 1 point each.
