Operation and Maintenance Instruction


(General Parts)

1. Safety and Protection

1.1 General Provision


The instruction consists of general and special parts. The former includes the following basic information
about “Xinglong” single screw pump: storage ﹑ transport ﹑ operation and maintenance, while the latter
includes: special debugging﹑installation size﹑assembly structure﹑name and code of components.
The instruction must be put near the installed place in order to be consulted at any time. Personnel should
carefully read before installing and operating pump. Being unfamiliar with the instruction may cause the
following dangers:
 partial damage----destroy some functions of pump;
 serious damage---pump is unable to be maintained, and loses its value;
 related personnel are injured by power﹑machine or chemistry;
 toxic substances leak, which will cause environmental pollution.
Except the stated rules in the instruction, personnel should also obey the safe producing rules and relevant
regulations in the company.

1.2 Personnel of Installation﹑Operation and Maintenance


Personnel of installation ﹑ operation and maintenance should have related qualifications. Merchant must
have strict regulations of personnel scope of duty and administrative staff, and train the personnel without
knowledge about operation and maintenance. Producer will offer support for training after confirming
with written agreement by the merchant's request. At last, merchant must guarantee all his personnel to be
completely familiar with the instruction before operating pump.

1.3 Proper Use


1.3.1

Pump unit is guaranteed to be safely operated under the condition which is decided at the time of selecting

model, and it is designed and assembled according to the applied condition while ordering goods. If user

needs any operation which is beyond the applied one, he must firstly consult producer about adaptability

and get confirmation. Pump application is confined by the following adaptabilities:

 adaptability between pump components and delivered media

 sealing method
 adaptability between sealing material and delivered media
 adaptability between related pressure﹑temperature﹑NO. of Rev and the real applied condition

1.3.2
Any improvement on pump or change of components must get producer’s agreement in order to insure
safety. Failing in doing that, it may cause accident, for which producer won’t be responsible.

User should take note to the attentive signs on the pump. Rotary direction of shaft and flowing direction
of media are usually marked on the plate, while “Drying Moving Unavailable” is at a remarkable place.

1.3.4
When valve closes or pipeline is blocked, pump can’t be started. If pipeline is unsmooth or resistance is
overhigh, the discharge pressure will suddenly increase, which will damage pump or pipeline. The user
must strictly prevent this situation from happening, and take more notes to inflammables, explosive and
toxic substances. If necessary, user can install corresponding emergency facilities, eg: urgent knob to stop
pump, overpressure protective device, reflex pipeline of emergency valve or blast baffle.

2. ‘Xinglong’ Single Screw Pump

2.1 Structure and Operated Principle


“Xing long” single screw pump is a kind of displacement pump, which can deliver media with different
density and viscosity (pic.2-1 followed).Rigid rotor (usually made of metal) rotates in the elastic stator
(usually made of rubber) to deliver medium. In addition, rotor is a rod component with single-end external
thread, while stator is a sleeve component with double-end internal thread, which forms a continuous
sealing line in a threaded shape. At the time of working, the seal cavity, which is formed by threaded seal
line, moves forward continuously to deliver media in the cavity (pic.2-2 followed).

2.2 Features
 wide application: deliver media with different viscosity and density, including fluid media with gas﹑
solid or suspended substances; Non-fluid media with a certain amount of liquid

 stable capacity and pressure; weak pulse

 capacity is in direct proportion to NO. of rev, so it can be used as dosing discharge

 strong anti-corrosiveness; suction lift up to 8.5m

 deliver sensitive liquids that can not be churned, sheared and compressed.

3.1 Transport

3.1.1
When pump unit is hoisted, personnel must pay attention to its center of
gravity, weight and hoisted position. If one end of pump is over heavy,
or center of gravity is over high, personnel must avoid it from toppling over.

3.1.2
It is unavailable to hoist pump unit through hook, which is only used to separately hoist motor or reducer.

3.1.3
While transported, pump must be smoothly placed in order to prevent it from slipping because of shake.

3.1.4
Don’t touch moving parts when transported and hoisted, in order to keep personnel from being drawn
into and damaged.

3.2 Storage
If pump is stored for future use, it should be kept as the following requirements:

3.2.1 Stator
Strip stator from pump, and separately store it ,which is in order to avoid deformation caused by rotor’s
gravity, for the deformation will lead to difficultly start machine ,decrease capacity and pressure.The
stripped stator should be stored in a cool dry place, and avoid shine and temperature under -10 ℃.

3.2.2 Rotor
After stator is stripped down, pad rotor with wood (Pic.3-1followed). Surface of rotor except that is
made of stainless steel should be painted with antirust oil.

3.2.3 Components of Packing Shaft Seal
If pump uses packing shaft seal, personnel should take the following steps:
 strip packing gland;
 dismantle packing ;
 paint surface of shaft with antirust oil.

3.2.4 Other Components


Surface of component except that is made of stainless steel should be painted with antirust oil.

3.2.5 Actuating Device


Cf.:《Actuating Device Manual》(provided by the producer)

3.3 Maintenance of Preserved Pump


If pump isn’t used for a long time, stator will deform in the course of being preserved, which will finally
influence working effect .Therefore the pump should be temporarily started after being preserved for a
certain period of time, which is useful for the recovery of stator after being compressed. We suggest the
intermittent period should not be more than 3 months.

4. Installed Instruction

4.1 Bases of Installation


 Flat installed plane ;
 Solidly pad the bottom before tightening anchor screw to avoid pump from deforming after screwing
tightly.

4.2 Comparation between Actuating Device's Output and Pump Shaft

4.2.1
If pump is connected with coupling, the relative deviation between couplings should
comply with the following requirements:

Radial deviation ΔY ≤ 0.15 ㎜


Angle deviation α ≤ 0. 5°

4.2.2
If pump is direct-coupled, and actuating device and pump are connected with flanges, in which:
 Direct-coupled should be firmly fixed on the frame;
 Chassis of actuating device (reducer and motor) should be tightened;
 Nut of actuating device is lightly screwed as supplementary support to avoid shake

4.3 Rotary Direction


Rotary direction, usually marked on the plate, decides delivered direction of media and forced direction of
driving parts. If user wants to change rotary direction, he is requested to contact with producer and get its
permission.

4.4 Pressure
Besides special requirements confirmed in order contract, the highest pressure that suction chamber bears
is 0.6 MPa.
The highest pressure which suction chamber allows is decided by pump lead:

1-class pump: 0.6MPa


2-class pump: 1.2MPa
3 -class pump: 1.8MPa
4 -class pump: 2.4MPa

4.5 Pipeline System

4.5.1
All pipelines need be completely cleaned before installing pump in order to avoid welding cinder, sandy
stone and other impurities from entering pump to destroy stator.
4.5.2
If pump is horizontally installed, it is suggested to set up a transitional pipeline between discharge casing
and connected pipeline (Pic.4-2 followed), which is helpful to dismantle stator. The minimus length of
transitional pipeline is shown in the table 4-2.

4.5.3
After pump and pipeline are connecte d together, it can’t bear any additive external force. Their
connection must meet the following requirements:
 Connected pump has no danger of being damaged
 Vibration of pipeline won’t pass to pump unit, and imperil safe operation

4.5.4
Pulling force(Fx) ﹑pressure(Fy)﹑stress(Fz) and bending moment (M x﹑My﹑Mz), which affect
suction chamber and flange of discharge casing,are expected to meet the requirements of《API676
Standard》. Their allowed maxmium values are shown in the table:

4.6 Axial Seal

4.6.1
Accessory facility and pipeline should be completely installed before pump is started. If axial seal is
externally rinsed, water cooling system should be unimpeded.

4.6.2
Regulation of shaft seal and leaking value should meet relevant requirements.

4.7 Connect With Power Supply


As regards to electricity, the electric technical personnel should operate pump
according to relevant rules and《Application Control Installation Instruction》.

5. Running

5.1 Observed Rules While Starting Pump:


 Avoid stator from dry moving. If pump is dry-moving even for a moment,
stator will be destroyed;
 If rotor is reused after painted with antirust oil, personnel should completely rinse it in order to
avoid destroying stator and polluting media due to the disagreement between lubricant and
stator;
 When pump is started for the first time, personnel should fully fill suction
chamber, which is for the purpose of avoiding dry rub between stator and
rotor;
 Closely seal suction pipeline and axial seal, in order to prevent air from entering;
 As displacement pump, if discharge pipeline is blocked, pressure will become high, which will
destroy pipeline and pump. Personnel should open all inlet and outlet valves before starting
pump, otherwise it is not allowable;
 Overload operation will destroy pump;
 Besides the explained descriptions while ordering goods, suction chamber is
usually designed as low-pressure standard(0.6MPa), because over high
suction pressure will destroy suction chamber and axial seal components;
 Before starting pump, examine whether pump’s working direction and motor’s
rotary direction are proper.

5.2 Axial Seal (Packing. If the pump is mechanical seal, you aren’t expected to read
this chapter)

5.2.1 Structures
 Ordinary packing seal(without external-connected media-flowing)

As regards to this pump, personnel must maintain proper leakage of media order in order to cool and
lubricate surface of seal housing.
 Packing seal (with external-connected media-flowing ) (Pic. 5-1 followed)
As regards to this pump, personnel must maintain external media-flowing pressure at more
0.7-1.7bar than that of inner packing chamber. Pump should be lubricated as the following
requirements:
a) Add clean fluid into pump as
“media-flowing’’, which requests a certain
amount of pressure to prevent media from
entering packing seal surface, or keep air
from entering pump when suction chamber’s
pressure is <0;
b) Add lubricating fluid;
c) Add cold/hot fluid or steam to wash pump

As above-mentioned a) and b) , there must be


cooling lubricating fluid on the surface of axial seal. In
this situation, dewatering hole of packing casing should
be sealed with screw, or forms fluid-seal pressure with throttle.
As c),rinsed fluid (cold/hot fluid or steam) should enter from one hole, and discharge from another hole.

Packing chamber has a hole, which is used to absorb and discharge seal fluid, when packing chamber
don’t absorb seal fluid. The hole must be sealed with plug, which is to prevent air from entering pump
when started.
Attention:don’t touch driving shaft while moving, in order to avoid being hurt!

5.2.2 Regulation of Packing


 Nut of packing gland should be lightly lightened before pump operated. In the operated initial stage,
pump has a large leaking capacity, which will gradually decrease after a period of time. It is
advisable to maintain leaking capacity at 50~200 drips/min(Pic.5-2 followed);

 After 30 minutes, regulate nut of packing gland again until leaking capacity is less than the following
normal values:(Pic.5-3 followed):
When D≤50 ㎜, leaking capacity is ≤15ml/min
When 50mm<D≤100 ㎜,leaking capacity is ≤20ml/min
When D>100mm 时,leaking capacity ≤30ml/min;
 Packing chamber’s temperature can’t be too much high, and it should be usually
higher 20~60℃ than media’s;
 If temperature suddenly increases, while leaking capacity decreases, personnel
should loosen nut immediately, and look for normal point of leaking capacity as above-mentioned
methods;
 If leaking capacity of outer edge suddenly increases, personnel must immediately stop pump and
regulated it.

5.3 Special Rinse


If pump is used for delivering sanitary food, the premoving
rinse should comply with relevant hygienic standard.
There are 2 ways of rinse:

5.3.1 Disintegrating Rinse


 Dismantle pump
 Clean all driving components with proper detergent
 Insure cleaned components not to be polluted before pump is assembled again

5.3.2 Automatic Rinse


Rinse through CIP:
Remark: many companies have their own rinse procedures, and the following is only for reference.

 Use running water to wash remained medium in the pump;
 Use 1~2% Nacl fluid to wash for 10~20 minutes under 60~80℃;
 Reuse running water to wash for 5~10 minutes;
 Use 1~1.5% NHO3 fluid to rinse for 5~10 minutes under50~70℃;
 Finally, use running water to clean for 5~10 minutes.
In the process of automatic rinse, personnel should pay attention to the following 2 points:
 Velocity of rinse solution can’t be below 1.5m/s.
 It is very important to make pump alternate between move and stop, due to the effects of heat and
chemistry on stator. In other words, personnel should start pump 2~3 times at 2~3 ring/minute, which
helps to clean rinse cavity between stator and rotor, and reduce friction caused by heat deformation.

6. Temporary Stop

6.1 Remained Medium in the Pipeline


If pump is temporarily stopped, the pipeline (between discharge casing and suction chamber) should keep
a amount of fluid, which is helpful to lubricate frictional surface between stator and rotor when pump
restarted.

6.2 Rinse Pipeline


When pump is stopped, remained medium may freeze、dry、solidify、
crystallize or precipitate, therefore personnel should empty it and rinse
pump clean, in order to avoid the following breakdowns:
 Remained medium paste or plug rotor and axial seal components, which leads to difficultly restart
pump;
 Precipitate enters working cavity of stator, which leads to dry friction and damage stator when pump
is restarted;
 Media blocks up discharge pipeline, which leads to overpressure when pump restarted.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Rinse pump

7.1.1
Because delivered media may freeze、dry、solidify、crystallize or precipitate,
personnel should regularly or irregularly rinse pump, so as not to damage stator
and axial seal, or plug control pipeline.

7.1.2 Rinse has the following ways:


 After disconnecting power and dismantling pump, personnel rinse by themselves;
 Close suction pipeline;
Take rinse solution from suction chamber;
Twist off plug of suction chamber to release remained solution.

Attention: in this situation, motor can be lightly rotated to release rinse solution in the stator
 Use CIP system to automatically rinse.

7.2 Lubricate Bearing of Driving Shaft


Bearing has been added enough lubricating grease before leaving the factory, so personnel needn’t add
any lubricating grease in 10000 hours. If pump need be maintained, personnel should dismantle bearing,
clean rinse its surface, and then add new lubricating grease again.

7.3 Lubricate Universal Joint


In most cases, ‘Xinglong’ single screw pumps use crossing universal joint, except micro pumps, which
use axial pin universal joint. Universal joint has been added lubricating grease before leaving the factory,
but personnel should examine seal or change lubricating grease in the following situations:
 Protective wrap is broken;
 Tight hoop loses efficacy;
 Universal joint’s components are changed;
 Universal joint is maintained.

7.4 Change Packing


7.4.1 Remove Old Packing
After the whole system’s pressure releases, personnel should:
 Take off packing gland
 Take off used packing and its pieces from chamber
with a extractor

7.4.2 Prepare for Packing Chamber


 Clean cavity and surface of driving shaft
 Change corroded or abraded driving shaft( shaft sleeve ) Pic.7-1
 Examine radial runout of driving shaft
 Examine gland and clearance between chamber and driving shaft. If clearance becomes larger
because of abrasion, personnel should add backing rings to both sides of packing rings, in order to
avoid packing from embedding into clearance due to extrusion and deformation. Meanwhile, the first
and last packing rings must have better quality.

7.4.3 Select Packing


Before installing packing, personnel should select its type according to delivered media and packing
chamber’s size.

7.4.4 Cut off Packing Ring


Before cutting off packing ring, personnel should pay attention to the following 2 points:
 Put packing flat before cutting
 Cutting-off angle should match driving shaft
Length of packing ring has connection with driving shaft’s diameter and seal’s width and personnel can
calculate according to the following formula:
LM =(d+s) ·X·π (mm)
s = ( D-d ) / 2
s: width of seal
d: diameter of driving shaft
D: aperture of packing
When d ≤60 mm, X=1.10
When d ≤100 mm, X=1.07
When d >100 mm, X=1.04

eg: when d=60 mm, D=80 mm, s=(D-d)/2=(80-60)/2=10 mm,


and then LM = ( d+s )· 1.10 · π =
(60+10)
·1.10·π=242 mm

In order to insure no clearance when cutting-off slice


is bent, the cutting-off angle should be 12 ~ 20 °
(Pic.7-2 followed)
If packing ring is cut off according to
above-mentioned formula, it will be a little longer
than actual size. When packing ring is installed into

the cavity, the tension caused by bend makes packing tightly stick to wall of cavity, which helps to
prevent packing ring from driving and media from leaking out along wall of cavity.

7.4.5 Install Packing


 Radically and axially break off packing ring in order to easily install it into driving shaft ( Pic.7-2
followed );
Attention: don’t seriously bend packing ring, which will damage fibers;
interfaces of packing rings should stagger 90°
 Push packing rings into cavity with gland
Attention: don’t use point-contact objects (eg: crowbar) to knock packing ring, in order to avoid damaging
driving shaft and deformation of packing ring;
 Continue installing rings until guide part enters cavity about 1/2 width of packing, then press gland.
 If packing circuit need be installed, personnel should examine whether position of packing circuit
and coupling cooling pipe match each other before tightening nuts.

7.5 Change Stator


If decreased capacity and pressure can’t meet operated requirements, personnel should analyze the
breakdown. If it is caused by overlarge clearance between stator and rotor, disassemble and change them.

7.6 Change Universal Joint


Personnel should examine universal joint in the following 2 conditions:
 Suction chamber unusually vibrates or rams
 Stator is disassembled ( Pic.8.3 followed)
When power is over 15kw, and stator is changed, it is suggested to remove all crossing universal joints,
axial sleeves, and protective wraps.

8. Disassemble General Parts

8.1 Disassemble Discharge Casing, Stator and Suction Chamber


Before disassembled, pump and its connected pipeline must be clean rinsed and cooled to
normal temperature in order to avoid personnel from being scalded.

As regards to current pumps, the procedure of (dis)assembling discharge casing﹑stator and suction
chamber has the following 5 points:

 Disassemble connective frame (J0611), bolt of arm support (3212) and washer (9019)(9020)(Pic.8-1

 Loosen and disassemble hexagon nut(9019) and washer(9020);

 Clamp outer covering of stator, and rotate actuating device ( motor, reducer or coupling) in order to
withdraw stator(2011)(Pic.8-4 followed);
 Disassemble bolt (9024) and washer(9020),which connect suction chamber and bearing pedestal
(direct-coupled hanger), to withdraw suction chamber ( Pic. 8-4 followed).
Attention: the (dis)assembling procedure of special pump (eg. vertical one, pump with muff),

8.2 Assemble Discharge Casing, Stator and Suction Chamber

Attention: after bearing pedestal,﹑universal joint﹑rotor and other components have been fitted together,
personnel can assemble discharge casing﹑stator and suction chamber.

8.2.1
Tighten suction chamber and bearing pedestal together with bolts.

8.2.2 Assemble Stator


 Take note to direction, which is that larger inner taper face connects with suction
chamber(Pic. 8-7);
 Lubricate stator and rotor with eg: silicone;
 Clamp outer covering of stator with tube vice, and manually rotate rotor through
motor﹑reducer or coupling, to assemble stator;
 Insure stator’s rubber seal dimension to match suction chamber’s seal plane;
 After stator is completely assembled, pad stator with a piece of wood to keep it horizontal
Attention: don’t put hands into stator, in order to avoid being hurt

8.2.3 Assemble Discharge Casing

 Face of stator have equal compression, which insure seal performance;

After disassembling universal joint (2500), personnel can strip rotor and intermediate shaft (Pic. 8-10
followed).
 Pad bearing pedestal(2110) 、driving shaft(2112)、intermediate shaft(3301)and rotor(2022)
with a piece of wood to keep them in a horizontal line (Pic. 8-10 followed);
 Loosen tight hoop(2557)of protective wrap(2556)with screwdriver (Pic. 8-11 followed);
 Remove protective wrap from universal joint in accordance with the direction of arrow in the picture
(Pic.8-12 followed);
 Loosen bolt (9093) with screwdriver in accordance with the direction of arrow in the picture, and
then remove it from spacer duct (Pic.8-13 followed);
 Rotate rotor to make head of universal joint at the bottom, and then knock jaw (2552) in accordance
with the direction of arrow in the picture to withdraw components of universal joint (2553) from jaw;
 Repeat doing what is done in the above steps to disassemble all universal joints.

While assembling universal joint, pay attention to the following 5 points:
 Examine abrasion of universal joint, which should be replaced or not
 If universal joint need be changed, it is suggested to replace it in pairs, and change protective wrap at
the same time
 Examine whether needle rolling wrap’s needle does shed or not
 Don’t destroy protective wrap
 Don’t put hands between two jaws in order to avoid being injured

Before assembling intermediate shaft(3301), personnel should fix universal joint which is next to driving
shaft. The assembling procedure has the following 5 steps ( Pic.8-16 followed ):
 Insert crossing universal joint into installed hole of driving shaft’s connective jaw(2557)
Pass lubricated crossing joint through installed hole;
Put two lock patches into installed duct of jaw;
Tighten lock patches with bolts(9093)
 Hitch up a jaw with protective wrap(2556);
 Assemble another universal joint that connects intermediate shaft and rotor in the same way;
 Lubricate the room between assembled universal joint and jaw;
 Lock protective wrap and jaw with tight hoops ( 2558 ).
