INFORMATION IMO HOOK REGULATIONS

New amendments to chapter IV of the LSA code enter into force January 1. 2013. Ref. MSC.1/Circ.1393
All replacement hooks shall comply with resolution MSC.320 (89) and resolution MSC.321 (89)

July 1. 2013
All existing hook system should have been tested according to the new test regime (MSC.1/Circ.1392)
within July 1. 2013, and reported suitable or failed.
This shall be done by the manufacturer and the administration should then approve or reject the hook
system.
Design review
- First by manufacturer
- If manufacturer finds not compliant, then administration should do a design review.
Performance test. To be performed if hooks found compliant in design review.
- Load to 100% of SWL and release. Repeat 50 times.
Dismantle and monitor wear, then assemble.
- Test with cables disconnected, cycle testing
10 times from 0 to 1.1 load in cycles of 10 seconds.
- Engage release cables and test release with SWL
the actuation force should be no less than 100N,
no more than 300N
One time follow –up overhaul examination. If found compliant in design review and performance test.
- Not later than the first scheduled dry-docking after July 1.2014 every LB release and retrieval
system of a type found compliant should be subject to an overhaul examination by the
manufacturer or by one of their representatives.

FPD acc. MSC.1/Circ.1327 should be used until hook system has been found compliant acc.
MSC.1/Circ.1392 or changed to res. MSC.320 (89) and MSC.321 (89) certified hooks.
Norsafe TOR MK2 are in complies with MSC.1/Circ.1392, and is also certified acc.
IMO resolution MSC.320 (89) and IMO resolution MSC.321 (89). The new regulations!

July 1. 2014
All new hook system installed after July 1. 2014, shall comply with this new regulations. (Keel laying date)

In addition to the above tests (July 1.2013) the hook system shall comply with the following requirements
- The hook assembly shall continue to be closed and hold its safe working load through a rotation
of the cam of up to 45 degrees in either direction.
- Material corrosion resistant in the marine environment without the need for coatings or
galvanizing
July 1. 2019
Hook system that are not approved should be replaced within the first scheduled dry docking of the
vessel after July 1. 2014, not later than 1 July 2019.
