Encanto
Encanto a movie released by Disney on Nov 24, 2021, in the USA, follows the gifted
family Madrigal that resides in the mountains of Colombia. Each child of the family is
gifted with supernatural abilities bestowed upon them by the charmed candle of their
family they call Encanto. But the miracle of the Encanto is slowly vanishing away along
with the abilities of each member of the family, and the only one that could save them
from this misfortune is the only ungifted member of the family, Maribel Madrigal.

Encanto when translated from Spanish to English is “charmed” and true to its title I was
charmed at the end of the movie. Starting from the structural design and the colors used
in the movie is just amazing, it brings the warmth and peace of living in the mountains at
the same time implementing the rich Columbian culture of the Family Madrigal and the
community.

I can whole heartedly understand the struggles of the heavy burdens of gifted members
considering I myself am experiencing these struggles. The burden and struggles that
every gifted member has to go through in order to achieve and maintain the prestige
image of the family that their grandmother Abuela wants, are making them lose sight of
who they truly are and restricting themselves from relying on each other weakening their
relationship as a family is extremely true to life. Because in human nature we get too
engulfed in attaining the best for ourselves and the best for others and by that we might
not realize it, but we abuse and neglect our own and others’ happiness in exchange for
it.

“All of you” is the last song of the movie and is the best song of the movie. It serves as
the conclusion and the resolve of the family. Starting over again from the foundation and
accepting their mistakes and forgiving each other for their wrongful perceptions of each
other. Learning that they are more than their gifts and that they should act on who they
truly are. It teaches us that as a family, we each are our different people and that no one
can mold who we are and what we are going to be. We do not need to meet the criteria
of other people to accept us, but rather they should be the ones accepting us for solely
who we are.
