11 year old Ashay notices a strand of hair on his upper lip.

He immediately
connects a moustache with becoming a 'man' and decides to read the
newspaper just like his dad. His friend Devendra, however, punctures
Ashay's bubble of happiness when he enters school. Devendra and other
students tease Ashay about his 'moustache' and it soon transforms into
the bane of his life. Ashay then has a chat with his father who tells him that
a moustache is a part of growing up, it's normal, and he need not worry
about it. Still not convinced, Ashay makes an attempt to shave off his
'moustache' only to end up cutting and bruising himself. lt is then that
Ashay's mother tells him how being responsible and accountable for your
actions, making mistakes and learning from them, is a big part of growing
up. The failed shave leaves Ashay with a band aid on his face. But instead of
getting embarrassed about it, he now decides to behave more maturely and
go to school with it. The next morning, the students are taken up with
Ashay's calm and collected attitude and call the band aid 'hip' and 'cool'.

When I was in 6th grade I remember

my mother treating me like a child for a
certain thing and then asking me
to behave like an adult a moment later! On
the road, she would say, "Hold my hand and
cross", as if I was a child. At home she would
say, "Aren't you old enough to clean
your room without me having to
tell you?". I was always confused about
where I was on the scale of growing up.
