Minerals

1) Most minerals have distinct physical characteristics that can be used to identify and categorize them,
including hardness, luster, color, streak, specific gravity, cleavage, fracture, and tenacity.

2) Silicate Mineral - quartz, feldspar, mica, amphibole, pyroxene, olivine, and a great variety of clay
minerals.

Native Elements - metals (platinum, iridium, osmium, iron, zinc, tin, gold, silver, copper, mercury,
lead, chromium) for semimetals (bismuth, antimony, arsenic, tellurium, selenium) and nonmetals
(sulfur, carbon).

Carbonates - Calcite, dolomite and aragonite

Halides - sodium, fluoride, and hydrochloric acid.

Oxides - iron, manganese, aluminum, chromium, titanium and copper.

Phosphates - phosphate anion along sometimes with arsenate and vanadate substitutions, and
chloride, fluoride, and hydroxide anions

Sulfates - iron, cobalt, nickel, zinc, and copper

Sulfides - iron, copper, nickel, lead, cobalt, silver, and zinc

3) Three key functions of minerals include the development of healthy bones and teeth, managing the
internal and external bodily fluids of cells, converting food you consume into energy. Every day, minerals
are used and processed to produce valuable products for us, including copper for wiring, silicon for
computer chips, gold, silver, and gems for jewelry, among countless other uses. Other valuable products
made from minerals include iron, aluminum, light bulb filaments, gold, and silver.

4) The majority of the metallic minerals used in the Philippines, such as copper, lead, zinc, chromite,
lead, and iron ore, are mined from significant deposits on the islands of Luzon and Mindanao. Numerous
other places have smaller silver, nickel, mercury, molybdenum, cadmium, and manganese deposits. The
earth's crust contains minerals all over the world, although they are often present in such minute
quantities that their extraction is usually not worthwhile. Minerals are only concentrated into deposits
that are economically viable with the aid of specific geological processes.

5) The products that are made up from silicate minerals are watches, glass, abrasives and jewelry.

6) Mineral resources that take millions of years to form and become concentrated are being consumed
quickly by humans. Reducing mining waste allows for the conservation and preservation of minerals.
using scrap metal to recycle metals. using different renewable replacements. using new technologies to
enable the use of low-grade ores at affordable costs as well as planned, sustainable mineral resource
usage.
