Summary

English is considered as the global language in the world and it is a mandatory subject

in school. In the Philippine, it is normal that students and other Filipino people are not so

good in speaking English but there are some Filipino people who is good in speaking

this language. It is also considered as skills and can be an advantage in facing the

challenges of real life after school.

This study that focus about the problems being encountered by grade 11 students in

learning English as a second language at Saint Joseph Institute of Technology. The

researcher found out that there are four factors that affects the effective learning of

English among the grade 11 students, motivation, opportunity to speak the language,

self-confidence, and teacher' guidance. The most relevant that reallt helps the students

are sel-f confidence and teacher's guidance.

Common grammatical mistakes mostly the students faced in speaking according to

(Muhammad, A.,2022) in his blog with the title "Problems Faced by Students in

Speaking English Language". Teacher's guide for the students to learn the proper use

of grammar in speaking English will be a great help to overcome the problem of grade
11 students. The self-confidence of the students in speaking will be develop if they

know that their teacher guides them and also if their able to do practice and familiarize

themselves in grammar. The study showed that the problems that being encountered by

grade 11 students in speaking English is being fix in a way that they are helping

themselves and their teacher's presence really helps also.

Findings

In identifying the problema being encountered by grade 11 students in learning English,

the researcher found out that motivation is the biggest factor being encountered by the

students in learning English as the second language with the mean average of 4.14. It is

directly stating that students should be motivated and not be discouraged in the process of

learning English as the second language. Opportunity to speak the language got mean average

of 3.9455, the teachers guidance got 3.7905 and the students self-confidence got a mean

average of 3.7105. The findings of this research is that the difficulty of grade 11 students can be

fixed once they are motivated and with the presence of their teachers to guide them and learn

effectively.
Another way to look at language learning is to treat it like learning a new skill. It is the same

also in learning English as second language, the grade 11 students should be aware that it is not

just a language but a skill that they can use in their future.
