IV. PROCEDURES
A. Introduction
The teacher will let the students know the objectives for the day:
recognize word meanings through context clues;
differentiate the types of context clues; and
familiarize oneself about context clues.
C. Development There are different types of context clues which include the
following:
1. Synonym or Restatement Clue is a type of context clue that
provides the synonyms of words to provide the meaning of an
unfamiliar word or words.
Examples:
Lhovie shouts continuously, or all the time, and it makes
me uncomfortable.
The manager felt remorse, or shame, for hiring some
incompetent employees.
2. Definition or Statement Clue is a type of context clue that
provides direct statement or meaning of the unfamiliar word/s.
Examples:
Ossicles are the three small bones in the middle ear.
Anton’s voice is inaudible; no one could hear it.
3. Antonym or Contrast Clue is a type of context clue that tells the
opposite meaning of the difficult word. It shows contrast.
Examples:
Japoy is gregarious unlike his shy sister.
The feral dog would scratch the wall, unlike the friendly
cat.
Examples:
Mammals, including cows, carabaos and horses, are helpful
animals.
V. Reflection The learners will write their reflection by answering the following:
