SECTION 1
INTRODUCTION

1.1. PURPOSE OF THE SERVICE MANUAL

This manual includes servicing and maintenance information for OT 40L VerticalLaboratory
Steam Sterilizer. It is prepared to be used by technicians who wereformerly trained by Nuve.
This manual informs the technicians about the operatingprinciples, diagnosing and repairing
methods and spare part replacing.

If any problem determined which is not identified in this manual, please contact toNuve
Servicing Team.

1.2 GENERAL PURPOSE

The heating function is provided by means of the heater placed inside thesterilization chamber.
The sterilization cycle consists of the heating, sterilization andcooling.

Heating:
Before the sterilization cycle, the sterilization chamber is heated to reachrequired steam
temperature.

Sterilization:
When the sterilization chamber temperature reaches to the settemperature, sterilization
starts. The sterilization chamber is kept at the requiredtemperature during the set time.

Cooling:
During the cooling phase, the steam in the sterilization chamber is beingcooled via the cooling
fan, until the pressure drops to zero. The samples are cooledin this phase.

SECTION 2
OPERATING PRINCIPLES

2.1. GENERAL OVERVIEW

The OT 40L can be split into 4 main groups,

 Power supply values
 Control unit
 Heating unit
 Water and Steam unit

2.2. EXPLANATIONS FOR THE FUNCTIONS2.2.1. Power Supply

The power supply values are listed below.
fuse Power supply Power inlet Heater type
OT 40 L 16 A 2500 W 230 V-50/60 Hz Circle Type Heater

2.2.2 Main PCB
The microprocessor controlled main PCB operates on “proportional” heating system. The main
PCB first starts heating cycle. Then PCB prepares steam at the requiredtemperature in the
sterilization chamber. It carries out the sterilization and coolingphases as explained in the section
1.2. At the end of the phases, the sterilizer warns theusers with an audible alarm that the cycle
has ended.

2.2.3 Control Panel
The below drawing shows the functions of the control panel. For more information, please refer
to OT 40L user’s manual

Figure1 : OT 40 L Control Panel

The functions of F1, F2, F3, F4 buttons are changing according to the commandswhich are
shown on the screen. So it is shown by ‘F’ letter.

2.2.4 Heating Unit
OT 40L is heated by sheet type heater which is placed outside of the chamber andthe needed
steam is provided by means of the heater which is placed inside thechamber.

2.2.5 Water and Steam Unit
The steam is produced by the heater which is placed inside the chamber and thus, ahomogenous
temperature distribution is maintained within the sterilization chamber. Thesterilization duration
is decreased by the pre-heating system which can be operatedoptional.

The pressure in the sterilization chamber can be followed on the manometer.

The steam solenoid valve is operated as explained in Section 1.2 by the main PCB.

The sterilization chamber safety valve operates if the pressure inside the chamberexceeds 3 Bar
and it discharges the excess steam which leads to over-pressure.

OT 40L presents supplementary protection with their integrated safety thermostat, safety valve
and surface thermostat in addition to the safety features of their controlsystem (i.e. high pressure,
high temperature). The exhaust tank is on the right side of the device.

The necessary water for sterilizationis filled inside the chamber manually and the condensed
steam is discharged to theexhaust tank. There should be water between minimum and maximum
level in theexhaust tank.

The components of the water and steam unit are listed below,
 Heater
  Temperature sensor
 Solenoid valve
 Steam trap
 Safety valve (3 Bar)

SECTION 3
SERVICING
Caution: Before servicing the instrument, please take the necessary precautionsfor
your safety. Please respect to the warnings on the unit !

Please make sure that you have disconnected power of the unit before servicing.

3.1. GENERAL OVERVIEW

The failures can be diagnosed according to the following tables.

Most of the arising problems can be determined by the help of a multimeter.
The components on the main PCB must not be replaced even the failure is caused byone of the
components on the main PCB. In this case, please send the failed PCB tofactory service along
with a note on which the failure explanations are written. Before replacing the PCB or any control
element, please make sure that the failure isnot caused by weak wire and terminal connections.

3.4 SSR CONTROL

SSR has 4 terminals. Terminal 1 and 2 are used for phase connection; terminal 3 and 4are
connected to the main PCB. Terminal 3 is connected to outlet of the main PCB (+),terminal 4 is
connected to outlet of the main PCB (-).Terminal 1 is inlet of the phase andterminal 2 is outlet of
the phase. Controlled circuit components (heaters, compressor, solenoid valve, etc.) are
connected to terminal 2.

1. State : There is voltage on the main PCB and terminals 1 and 2 are open circuit,
2. State : There is no voltage on the main PCB and terminals 1 and 2 are short circuit.

At the first state; if you connect heater to terminal 2, it does not heat. And if you connecta
cooling element to terminal 2, it does not cool.
At the second state; if you connect a heater to terminal 2, it can not control heating andoverheats.
And if you connect cooling element to 2 terminal, it can not control cooling.

  Controlling of the first state;

When the device is switch off position, disconnect terminal 1 from the main PCB. Thecable of
the terminal must not touch to anywhere, please isolate it.If the device does not heat, set it to
high temperature and start. Check terminal 3 and 4if there is DC voltage or not. If there is DC
voltage, it means the main PCB is operatingproperly. In this case, check terminals 1 and 2 if
they are short circuit or not. If there isno short circuit and there is open circuit, it means SSR
is defective. If there is shortcircuit and there is no open circuit, it means SSR is not defective.

 Controlling of the second state;
When the device is at switch off position, disconnect 1 terminal from the main PCB. Thecable
of the terminal must not touch to anywhere, please isolate it.If the device is overheating, set it
to low temperature and start. Check the SSR, after thetemperature exceeds the set
temperature. Check terminal 3 and 4 if there is DC voltageor not. If there is no DC voltage, it
means the main PCB is not operating properly. In thiscase, check terminals 1and 2 if they are
open circuit or not. If there is no open circuitand there is short circuit, it means SSR is
defective. If there is open circuit and there isno short circuit, it means SSR is not defective.
