What was there first than the car?
• The history of the automobile is very 
rich and dates back to the 15th century 
when Leonardo da Vinci was creating 
designs and models for transport 
vehicles.But until the second industrial 
revolution the majority of the people 
had still to use the horse power to 
move into the landscape.

• The first car was built by Joseph Cugnot in 1769. It was powered by a 
steam engine and was very slow.

• Jean Joseph Étienne Lenoir was the first to build the one cylinder 
engine, internal‐combustion engine, was later patent. (1858)

• In 1886 Gottlieb Daimler designed the first four wheeled automobile. 
They also created the first v‐slanted engine.

• In 1885, Karl Benz designed and built the world's first practical 
automobile to be powered by an internal‐combustion engine.

• Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach with Benz’s manufacturing firm in 
1926 to create Daimler‐Benz. The joint company makes cars today under 
the Mercedes‐Benz nameplate, and Daimler Chrysler 
• Henry Ford, a famous car company founder, designed the world’s biggest 
car manufacturer, manufacturing over 15 million Model by 1927 
• Hybrid cars have also been around since the 1900’s. 
• In the 1900’s Ford made more steam and electric cars than it did gasoline. 
• The first hybrid commercial truck was built in 1910, and as the gasoline 
engine was refined interest in hybrids died down.
• As problems with environment and gas process continue, Hybrids are now 
a hot commodity in the market place and are now the new wave of future 
cars 
IC Engine Development
o Diamler and Benz invented IC engine for automobile in 1895.
o Diamler developed V‐Twin engine in 1898.
o Ettore Bugatti created first IC engine with overhead cam shaft in
1910.
o Due to improvement of technology and material IC engine is being
modified more faster.

History of Motorcycle
• History of Motorcycle:
 A motorcycle (also called motorbike, bike, moto or cycle) is a two or three wheeled motor
vehicle.
 The term motorcycle has different legal definitions depending on jurisdiction or geographical
area or country.
• Legal definitions and restrictions
 A motorcycle is broadly defined by law in most countries for the purposes of registration, taxation
and rider licensing as a powered two‐wheel motor vehicle.
 Most countries distinguish between mopeds of 49 cc and the more powerful, larger vehicles
(scooters do not count as a separate category).
 Many jurisdictions include some forms of three‐wheeled cars are treated as motorcycles.
• Uses of Motorcycles:
 In developed countries motorcycle are used for recreation, lifestyle accessory or a symbol of
personal identity

 Motorcycles are designed for verities of purpose including long distance travel, commuting,
cruising, racing and off‐road riding.
 Motorcycles sometime used in social activities including motorcycle club and motorcycle rallies.
