Lesson Plan Project

Lesson Goals or Learning Targets (Word these as measurable student outcomes.)

To be able will finish the paragraph in under one minute without any mistakes or skipped
words.

Lesson Objectives or Success Criteria (Word these as student actions, use verbs.)

Student will read the passage given out loud under one minute.

Lesson Plan Content (Written narrative paragraph about the lesson content.)

Students from different classrooms will come in and sit on the carpet. I will then announce that
there will be a quiz on the passage they have been reading. I will then call each partner group
up and then explain to them that they will need to read the passage under one minute. I will
give them a few seconds to look over it. They will start and I will press go on the timer. Any
words they get wrong or skip I will circle. After they are done I will call the next group over.
CCSS Rationale (Describe the specific Common Core State Standards addressed during the teaching
of this lesson plan.)

The CCSS that I can address to my lesson plan is the Common Core State Standards
for English Language Arts number 2 of the reading standards for foundational skills
for grade 1 standards. It explains that the students can understand spoken words,
syllables, and sounds. They need to know how to read and understand the words
they are reading out loud.

Instructional Procedures

• Focusing Event (Describe how you will get students to focus attention on your teaching.)

Once they sit down and get a chance to grab their books, I will announce that I will be
testing them on the story they have been reading this week.

• Instructional Strategies (Describe each of the instructional methods you will employ during the
lesson.)

I will employ direct instruction during the lesson. I will do this by telling them when to
start, what passage to read, and when to stop reading.

• Student Participation (How will you engage students and get them on board to participate?)

They will be with their partner that they chose. I will have them choose who gets to
read first and then I will give them time to read over the passage.

• Formative Check (How will you check that all students are involved and engaged in the lesson?

While the first student starts reading I will check on their partner and make sure they
are reading along and paying attention.

• Closure (How will you end the lesson purposefully, with intentionality?)

With each student I will tell them how they did and compare it to the time before. Then
I will let them know what they need to work on.
• Assessment (How will you assess that students achieved the lesson goals or learning targets?)

Once I am done testing all the students, I will have to count each word the students
have read. For each of them I will have a grading sheet where I will write down all the
mistakes and then I will use the equation that is given to calculate the words per
minute each student is able to read.

Lesson Plan Materials (Include everything needed to successfully complete the lesson with
the full class. Remember to include all supplies, as well as technology, whiteboard space,
classroom space, etc.)
