GRADES 7

DAILY LESSON PLAN

SCHOOL: HINATUAN NATIONAL COMPREHENSIVE HIGH SCHOOL

TEACHER: MARIZEL J. VILLALUZ
LEARNING AREA: Mathematics GRADE LEVEL: Seven (7)
TEACHING DATES: November 26-30, 2018 @ 8:30 AM QUARTER: Three

I. Objectives:
A. Content Standards:

The learner demonstrates understanding of the key concepts of algebraic expressions, the
properties of real numbers as applied in linear equations and inequalities in one variable.

B. Performance Standards:

The learner is able to model situations using oral, written, graphical and algebraic methods
in solving problems involving algebraic expressions, linear equations and inequalities in one
variable.

C. Learning Competencies / Objectives:

In this lesson, the students should be able to

1. Define and interpret the meaning of an where n is a positive integer.

2. Derive inductively the Laws of Exponents and illustrate the Laws of Exponents.

II. Content: LAWS OF EXPONENT

III. Learning Resources:

A. References:

1. Teacher’s Guide Pages: Mathematics 7 Learner’s Materials

Pages 127-131
2. Learner’s Materials Pages:
3. Textbook Pages: Elementary Algebra
Page 94-99
4. Additional Materials from Learning resources (LR) Portal

B. Other Learning Resources

IV. Procedure:
A. Reviewing Previous Lesson or Presenting New Lesson
Give the product of each of the following as fast as you can.
1) 3 x 3 = ________
2) 4 x 4 x 4 = ________
3) 5 x 5 x 5 = ________
4) 2 x 2 x 2 = ________
5) 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 = ________
6) 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 = ________
B. Establishing a Purpose for the Lesson
1. Presenting Examples / Instances of the Lesson

Discovering the Laws of Exponents

A) an = a x a x a x a ….. (n times)

In an, a is called the base and n is called the exponent.

Exercises
1) Which of the following is/are correct?
a) 24 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 = 8
b) 25 = 2 x 5 = 10
c) 33 = 3 x 3 x 3 = 27
2) Give the value of each of the following as fast as you can.
a) 23 b) 25 c) 34

2. Discussing New Concepts and Practicing New Skills#1

Evaluate the following.
1) (23)(22) = 2 • 2 • 2 • 2 • 2 = 25 = 32
2) (x5)(x4) =
3) (32)(34) =
4) (24)(25) =

For any number a, and any positive integers m and n,

am • an = am + n

What can you conclude about an • am? What will you do with a, n and m?
am • an = am + n

3. Discussing New Concepts and Practicing New Skills#2

Evaluate the following.
1) (ab)3
2) (3mn)2

For any number a, and any positive integers m and n,

(ab)m = ambm

4. Developing Mastery (Leads To Formative Assessment 3)

Evaluate the following.
1) (32)2 =
2) (a2)5=
For any number a, and any positive integers m and n,
(am)n = amn

What can you conclude about (an)m? What will you do with a, n and m?
(am)n = amn

5. App
6. Simplify the following :
1. (a5 )(a)(a7)
2. (a2)3
3. (a2b2)5
V. Making Generalization and Abstractions about the lesson

Laws of Exponents:
1) an = a x a x a x a ….. (n times)
2) am • an = am + n product of a power
3) (ab)m = ambm power of product
4) (am)n = amn power of powers

VI. Evaluating Learning

Evaluate each of the following
1. (22)3 =
2. (x3)(x4) =
3. 42 = 4 x 4 = 16
4. (x4)3
5. (23)(22) =
