NORWAY

Located to the west of the Scandinavian Peninsula, Norway shares its border with Sweden,
Finland and Russia. Its elongated shape has allowed the development of its 20,000
kilometers of coastline formed by a maritime front cut out by fjords. Its interior is
mountainous and is covered with some of the largest glaciers in Europe,its population has
less than 5,000,000 million people, its capital is Oslo.

LANGUAGE

The official language of Norway is Norwegian, a North Germanic language directly related
to Danish and Swedish. For the most part speakers of Norwegian, Danish and Swedish can
easily understand each other.

WEATHER

The weather in Norway varies a lot. During winter the temperature drops more in the
interior of the country than on the coast, where the Gulf of Mexico Stream softens the
climate. During the summer, although the rain is frequent, the temperature is pleasant.

RELIGION

Norway has a National Protestant Church based on the Evangelical Lutheran religion.
Although there is no separation between Church and State, its people has the right to freely
practice their religion in accordance with an amendment made to the Constitution in 1964.
Nine out of ten native Norwegians belong to the Norwegian National Church.

TOURISM

Hotels: Norway offers accommodation to suit any budget. There is everything from luxury
hotels to the smallest family hotels. Especially popular are the many wonderful wooden
hotels with a unique atmosphere.

Camping: Norway has more than 1000 campsites classified from 1 to 5 stars depending on
their class and the facilities they offer.

Accommodation rental: Through rental agencies or advertisements in local newspapers, you


can rent houses, apartments or cabins, for both short and long periods of time. Tourist
information offices also provide reviews on accommodation in private houses

CELEBRATIONS

The most important event in the country is celebrated on May 17, Constitution Day, when
many Norwegians dressed in traditional costumes flood the streets. Another outstanding
festivity takes place on the night of June 23 with numerous bonfires on the beach, on the eve
of San Juan. The Sami (Lapps) people organize colorful festivals in Karasjok and
Kautokeino during Easter, where you can enjoy reindeer races, joik (traditional songs) and
concerts.
CURIOSITIES

Northern Lights: A spectacular play of lights rippling across the night sky. Unfortunately,
however, there are never guarantees that it will be seen, as it depends on certain weather
conditions between November and February.

Midnight sun: The best time to see the midnight sun in Norway is between May and July.
The sun does not set on the horizon throughout the northern part of Norway from Bodø to
the North Cape.
