New and improved

K YNAR Flex® fluoropolymer resin is the premium jacketing material for use on
data, voice signal, alarm, and video low-voltage cable. Because KYNAR Flex®
fluoropolymer exhibits minimal flame-spread and smoke-generation, cable
jacketed with this fluoropolymer meets National Electrical Code (NFPA-70A)
requirements for installation in building plenum areas without conduit. In fact,
to increase the safety factor, many insurance carriers recommend that their
clients install plenum cable throughout — in plenum and non-plenum building
areas. KYNAR Flex® fluoropolymer resin is extremely durable and resistant
to abrasion and mechanical damage during and after cable installation.
Its flexibility makes cable installation faster and easier.

KYNAR Flex® fluoropolymer is also a jacketing material for non-plenum cable

applications where its flexibility, toughness, light weight, and resistance to
chemical, thermal, corrosive, and ultraviolet attack are important. Examples
include avionics, fluid sensing, instrumentation wiring, mass transit signaling,
communications and system control. KYNAR Flex® fluoropolymer resin is
particularly well-suited for use in hostile environments where corrosive
atmospheres, thermal cycling, or mechanical stress to the cable are possible.

fluoropolymer
Cable jacketing in various constructions & grades

Cable weight is often a major factor in wiring

system designs. In building plenums, the weight

of cables hung from ceiling hangers is a concern,

while in aircraft and other vehicle wiring designs,

lightweight cable can translate into fuel savings

or increased payload potential. KYNAR Flex®

fluoropolymer is lighter than FEP, costs less than

FEP or ETFE, and offers similar performance.

Ongoing studies conducted with the cooperation

of aircraft manufacturers show that by

substituting cable jacketed with KYNAR Flex®

fluoropolymer for FEP-jacketed cable, savings

in cable cost and weight are possible.

By substituting cable jacketed with KYNAR Flex®

fluoropolymer for ETFE-jacketed cable,

cost savings are possible. See the charts on

page 11 for cost and weight comparisons.

KYNAR Flex fluoropolymer resin ®

For flexible hoses, tubing, and plenum -

P roducts manufactured of KYNAR Flex® fluoropolymer resins are flexible

without sacrificing strength. The resin is ideal for extruding

flexible hoses and tubing that must withstand the effect of solvents

and corrosive chemicals in process pulp and paper, semiconductor,

pharmaceutical, nuclear, and automotive industries.

KYNAR Flex® fluoropolymer resin is also used to manufacture flexible

innerduct for fiber-optic cable. The innerduct is UL listed for plenum

applications and offers a number of advantages: it segregates the cable,

protects it from physical damage, and simplifies cable management.

Cables in innerduct are easy to locate and identify. Innerduct also

improves cable installation procedures because its smooth inner surface

provides a low-friction path for pulling cable. It is easy to handle and

install, even in long runs, because its corrugated design improves

flexibility and KYNAR Flex® innerduct has virtually no recoil memory.
