From your science 8 lesson can you still identify
and give the function for each organs below?

1. Heart- the main organ of the body

circulation consist of muscles, chambers
and blood vessels.
1.
2. Kidney- remove wastes and extra
fluid from your body. Your kidneys
also remove acid that is produced by
the cells of your body and maintain a
healthy balance of water, salts, and
minerals—such as sodium, calcium,
2. phosphorus, and potassium—in your
blood.

3. Larynx - is part of your respiratory

system. It's a hollow tube that lets
air pass from your throat
(pharynx) to your trachea on the
way to your lungs. It also contains
3. your vocal cords and is essential to
human speech, so it's often called
the voice box.
4.
4. Nasal Cavity- The nasal cavity lies above
the bone that forms the roof of the
mouth and curves down at the back to
join the throat. It is divided into two
sections called nasal passages. Air
moves through these passages during
breathing. The nasal passages filter
and warm the air, and make it moist
before it goes into the lungs.

Breathing and Respiration

Life depends on breathing because the body cells needs

oxygen. During inspiration, you breath or inhale fresh supply
of air into the lungs. During expiration you exhale to get rid of
carbon dioxide not needed by the body.
The pharynx serves as the passageway for both air and food.
The pharynx forms an entrance to both respiratory and
digestive tracts. Larynx is a small cave of muscle in front of
the neck. Just below the larynx is the Trachea, its branches
out and forms the “bronchial tree” called the bronchi and the
alveoli. The bronchi are two small pipes from trachea. One
leads to the right lung and the other one to the left lung. They
again branch into smaller tubes within the lungs that leads to
the microscopic balloon like air sacs , the alveoli. After carbon
dioxide has passed from the blood through the capillary and
alveolar wall. It is breathed out by the lungs. Oxygen that
enters the lung goes through the alveolar and capillary walls
and goes into the bloodstream to enter the body cells.
Smoking may inhibit the cilia of the trachea for several hours.
That is why the tar and smoke particles are carried to the
lungs.

D. Discussing New Teacher’s Activity Students Activity

Concepts and Students will continuously listen attentively while
Practicing New EXPLAIN the teacher is discussing.
Skills#1

At the end of our lesson, you are expected to

explain how the respiratory system transport
nutrients, gases and other molecules to and from
the different parts of the body, and, infer how
one’s lifestyle can affect the functioning of
respiratory system.
Our skin, muscles and bones must be constantly
supplied with food and oxygen in order to
function. Food as a fuel for the cells is broken
down by the digestive system and the soluble
materials plus oxygen are supplied to the body
cells through circulatory system. But how do food
and oxygen get into the blood before they are
transported? What do cells excrete after they
performed important activities? How are waste
excreted by these cells?

Respiration is a life process common to both plants

and animals. In this process there is an exchange of
oxygen and carbon dioxide. In your body, oxygen is
continuously supplied to body cells and is
transported through the bloodstream. Oxygen is
then used to oxidize or “burn” food materials in
the cells. After the cellular breakdown of food,
carbon dioxide is released by the cell this, gaseous
waste is again picked up by the blood and is
expelled from body system.
Air enters the nose. Nostrils serves as the entrance
to the nasal cavities.

Contextualization
( Automotive)

Watch a moving car. Notice the exhaust pipe on its

rear. A car burns gasoline to keep its moving . It
needs oxygen to perform combustion process. The
blue gas coming from its exhaust is a waste from
that process. It has to be expelled, or else the car
engine will stop and this principle works the same
in your body.

G. Finding Practical TEACHING PRINCIPLES (MELLON 2013)

Applications of “ Teaching becomes effective and student learning is enhanced when: the assessment which provides
Concepts and Skills opportunities for learners to demonstrate and practice the knowledge and skills articulated in the
in Daily Living activities and teachers to offer targeted feedback that can guide further learning”.

How lifestyle affects the functioning of respiratory A defective urinary system may bring
system? trouble to your body. Sometimes, the
urinary passage may get clogged. Waste
liquids cannot escape freely and pressure
builds up. Waste may accumulate in the
bloodstream and this will lead to several
disorders. Eating too much salt in foods
and junk foods may damage the kidney.

Abstractions about
the Lesson. Recently, people with severe kidney
diseases live longer and better lives
through machines that purify blood by a
process known as dialysis. Patients
experiencing kidney failure may undergo
dialysis to have circulation cleansed.
