I. Objective
At the end of the session, learners will be able to illustrate the importance of qualitative research
across fields. CS_RS12-Ia-c-2

Enabling objectives:
Specifically, learners shall be able to:
a) illustrate the importance of quantitative research across fields.
b) identify the fields or areas of interest that the given qualitative studies would address
c) value the use of qualitative data in everyday living.

Lecture Proper:

IMPORTANCE OF QUALITATIVE RESEARCH ACROSS FIELDS


 Anthropology. Many discoveries in this field like human behavior in the society, racial conflicts and
human evolution have given enormous contributions to the improvement of human life.
 Communication. Researchers are often interested in how an understanding of a particular
communication phenomena might be generalized to a larger population. Example: What communicative
behaviors are used to respond to co-workers displaying emotional stress?
 Psychology. Many educational principles in understanding human behavior are the offshoot of this
research.
 Social Science. The method employed in this type of quantitative social research are mostly typically
the survey and the experiment. Example: the study of DSWD regarding 4P’s
 Agriculture and fisheries. To examine how agriculture in a particular community is influenced by
global trends.
 Sports. To understand the relationship between one’s health and athletic performance.
 Arts. To investigate methods or approaches that enhance one’s creativity
 Science. To determine the effectiveness of a newly developed medicine, treatment, or approach in
addressing health problems
 Business. To assess approaches that will help companies in their decision-making
practices
What instances or topics at home require you to utilize quantitative method to come up with a sound
decision?
How can the knowledge about quantitative research benefit you as SHS students?

Students will identify the fields or areas of interest that the given qualtitative studies would address.

1. Skills of Technical, Vocational, and Livelihood Students (TVL) and its relevance to their preferred
courses in college.
2. Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic in the economic activities in the CALABARZON Region.
3. Comparative analysis of the behavior of viewers in the city and those in the province

IV. Evaluation: Short Quiz (suggested time 5-10 mins.)

Directions. Directions: Below are some of the importance of qualitative research on various fields. Classify
each of them as to STEM, HUMSS or ABM field.

1.Research helps design a new product or service, figure out what is needed and ensure that the development
of a product is highly targeted towards demand.
2.It helps in determining the effectiveness and side effects of a vaccine to a certain population.
3.It helps in providing designs which are creatively difficult.
4.It provides solutions to the social problems directly felt by the people.
5.It identifies the problems of the deteriorating quality of education.
