LESSON: INTERPRETATIVE COMMUNICATION

 Interpersonal communication helps build confidence and overcome anxiety about speaking.
 Interpersonal communication is an ongoing dialogue between two or more people
 Examples of interpersonal communication are phone calls, meetings, and presentations.
 Interpretive communication is one-way communication where students use their listening
and/or reading skills to comprehend spoken and written language.
 Presentational communication occurs when students use their writing and speaking skills to
present information or knowledge on a topic.
 Interpersonal communication is a two-way communication in which both sides are actively
negotiating meaning through a process of observing, monitoring and clarification.
 Verbal Communication is a type of interpersonal communication where you talk or even make
an audible sound.
 Listening is purposeful and requires concentration to understand what the speaker is sharing.
 Written Communication is a type of interpersonal communication where you convey a message
via written symbols
 Non-Verbal Communication can be achieved through everything from facial expressions, to
specific gestures to body language and certain postures.

LESSON: ACADEMIC WRITING

 Essay is a written piece that is designed to present an idea, propose an argument, express the
emotion or initiate debate.
 Dissertation includes all information about the original research or expanded research on a new
or existing topic conducted by the PhD candidate.
 The purpose of Thesis is to allow students to showcase their knowledge and expertise within the
subject matter they have been studying as part of the program.
 Academic Journal serves as permanent and transparent forums for the presentation, scrutiny,
and discussion of research.
 Research Paper empowers us with knowledge and discovers new things and issues in life
 . Book is a medium for recording information in the form of writing or images, typically
composed of many pages bound together and protected by a cover.
 Descriptive Essay describes the traits and characteristics of people, objects, events, and feelings
in intricate detail.
 In Narrative Essay, you are telling a story from a certain viewpoint.
 Expository Essay explains compares, explores, and discusses problems.
 In Argumentative Essay, writer is trying to convince the reader of something.

LESSON: TRUTHFULNESS AND ACCURACY OF THE MATERIAL VIEWED

 Not all printed materials that you are reading are accurate and factual.
 Not all the news we heard from television or radio are true.
 It is important to evaluate the sources and information you use for references.
 There are many reasons why people make the statements they do.
 Some information sources are more credible than others, because they have been in business
for a very long time and have established a strong reputation for accuracy and dependable facts.
 Accuracy is the condition or quality of being true, correct, or exact or precise.

 Truth is factual based rather than opinion -oriented. If you lie about something, then what you
are saying is false.
 A FACT: - can be proven true or false through objective evidence. - relies on denotative
language. - frequently uses measurable or verifiable numbers, statistics, dates and
measurements.
 AN OPINION: - cannot be presently verified. - relies on connotative language. - can mean
different things to different people. - uses value judgment words and comparisons such as
“best,” “most,” etc…
