REPLACEMENT
1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (–) battery terminal to pre-
vent airbag activation.
2. REMOVE STARTER ASSY (See page 19–8)
3. DRAIN ENGINE OIL
4. DRAIN TRANSMISSION OIL AND TRANSMISSION FLUID (See page 41–2 or 40–2)
5. REMOVE TRANSMISSION ASSY (See page 41–4, 41–11 or 40–6)
6. M/T:
REMOVE CLUTCH DISC ASSY (See page 42–18)
7. REMOVE FLYWHEEL SUB–ASSY
SST (a) Using SST, hold the crankshaft.

Remove the 8 bolts and flywheel.
(c) A/T:
Remove the 8 bolts, drive plate spacer, drive plate and fly-
wheel.

8. REMOVE REAR END PLATE

(a) Remove the bolt and end plate.

9. REMOVE ENGINE REAR OIL SEAL RETAINER

(a) Remove the 7 bolts and retainer.

10. REMOVE ENGINE REAR OIL SEAL

(a) Using a screwdriver and hammer, tap out the oil seal.

11. INSTALL ENGINE REAR OIL SEAL

(a) Using SST and a hammer, tap in a new oil seal until its sur-
face is flush with the rear oil seal retainer edge.

(b) Apply MP grease to the lip of the oil seal.

12. INSTALL ENGINE REAR OIL SEAL RETAINER

(a) Remove any oil seal packing (FIPG) material from the oil
Seal Packing
pan and cylinder block.
(b) Apply seal packing to the specified areas shown in the il-
lustration.
Seal packing: Part No. 08826–00080 or equivalent
Seal diameter: 4 mm (0.12 to 0.20 in.)
NOTICE:
S After applying FIPG, install the engine rear oil seal re-
tainer within 3 minutes and tighten its bolts within 15
minutes.
S Do not start the engine for at least 2 hours after the
installation.

Seal Packing

A (c) Install the retainer with the 7 bolts. Alternately tighten the
A 7 bolts in several passes.
Torque:
13 N⋅m (133 kgf⋅cm, 9.6 ft⋅lbf) for bolt A
A 16 N⋅m (163 kgf⋅cm, 12 ft⋅lbf) for bolt B

13. INSTALL REAR END PLATE

(a) Install the end plate with the bolt.
Torque: 8.0 N⋅m (82 kgf⋅cm, 71 in.⋅lbf)

14. INSTALL FLYWHEEL SUB–ASSY

(a) Clean the bolt and its hole.
Adhesive
(b) Apply adhesive to 2 or 3 threads of the bolt end.

Part No. 08833–00070, THREE BOND 1324 or equiva-
lent

(c) Using SST, hold the crankshaft.

SST SST 09213–58013, 09330–00021
Torque: 365 N⋅m (3,722 kgf⋅cm, 270 ft⋅lbf)
(d) M/T:
Install the flywheel on the crankshaft.
(e) A/T:
Install the flywheel, drive plate and drive plate spacer on
the crankshaft.
