A pleasant afternoon to everyone.

To our CID chief, education program supervisors, and to my fellow

teachers.

COVID 19 has caused unprecedented disruptions to schooling worldwide. Given the scale of disruptions
there is substantial concern about “learning loss,” and reading skills are one of the vital life skills that
were interrupted—its growth stalled and most remained stagnant throughout the pandemic. As we
move towards the middle of the school year 2021-2022, teachers are not only preoccupied with paper
works, school forms, and other additional tasks, they are also juggling in solving the problem with non-
readers. Worse, the solution to the latter’s problem was a blur, especially for me, a high school teacher,
who isn’t equipped with teaching reading skills to beginning readers. And I guess, I am speaking on
behalf of the high school teachers.

Fortunately, this two-day Workshop on Customized Reading Approaches for Beginning Readers Across
Grade Levels provided an avenue for us teachers to have a substantial cure for this pandemic called
“learning loss.”

Each day, we appreciate the learnings and the skills that we gained throughout the workshop, and from
the lecturers whose expertise paved the way to the realization that every challenge contains an
opportunity to grow.

And just as what our CID Chief has set before us,

…the challenge to….

With that, I am proud and humbled to accept these challenges in behalf of the Oroquieta City Division
teachers.

And yes, we have more than enough to swallow on our plates, but despite that, we teachers, will always
allocate a space for our learners as they are always our priority. They hold the nation’s future, and it is
only rightful that we put them on top of our priority list.

On that note, let us all accept the challenge of instilling to our learners the most valuable skill of reading.
Whatever the means, whatever the technique, we shall get our nation reading again. Thus, learning
again, for the sake of the future.

Again, challenge accepted!

Thank you and good afternoon.
