DIVISION REFRESHER COURSE 2023

Activity
Once again Ormoc City Division hold an athletic event
known as DIVISION SIGLARO 2023 to bring back the
active involvement of the learners to the different sports
they like after the pandemic. The conduct of Division
Siglaro 2023 based on Division Memo No. 067, s. 2023
stipulated the time schedule of the activities with the
theme: “STRENGTHENING RESILIENCY IN THE FACE

TENNIS being one games to be played in the said
event was held in ORMOC CITY MIDTOWN TENNIS
CLUB participated by elementary and secondary athletes
of the 8 districts namely: District 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 10 for
elementary and District 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 and 10 for secondary
and both levels completed the necessary documents to
compete for the said event.
The main objective of the tennis tournament in the
 recently concluded 2023 Ormoc Division Siglaro was to
select potential and best athletes to represent Ormoc City
Division and compete for EVRAA 2023.
Two days before the opening of the Division Siglaro
2023, last February 22,2023 at 2 pm, there was a solidarity
meeting for all coaches and tournament managers. After
the opening program in the solidarity conference, coaches
of TENNIS had its special group conference where the

tournament manager Mrs. Wilma A. De La Cruz facilitated
the meeting. Ground rules were set and agreed by all
officials and coaches thru affixing participants signatures
to the printed hard copy. Pairing also was made based on
the entries submitted and the game schedule was set.
The Midtown Tennis Club allowed us to use their three
courts for the SIGLARO 2023. Game 1 started right after
the short opening program played in court 3 for elementary
and courts 1 and 2 for secondary. Elimination rounds and
semis were done on the first day February 24, 2023 for
both elementary and secondary. On the second day
February 25, 2023 we had the CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES
done. After the championship games, the officiating

officials of the tournament finished all the required

documents and reports to be submitted to the SIGLARO
Secretariat and announced the OFFICIAL AND FINAL
RESULT of the tournament. In the afternoon of the second
day at 3:00 o’clock, we had our awarding ceremony at the
venue. And on the third day February 26, 2023, the
winning teams of TENNIS joined in the closing program at
Ormoc City Sports Complex where they were recognized
and instructions for the coming EVRAA 2023 were given.

The game was conducted fairly and participated well

without any appeals. Tennis representatives for EVRAA
2023 were the athletes from District 1, 4 and 10 in both
elementary and secondary. CONGRATULATIONS to all
the coaches and athletes!

The game needs balls in every game but there was no

supply given to the team. It also needed fund for the ball
boys to make every game smooth and fast, so the
officiating officials initiated and let every participating team
to provide 2 balls in every game they played and the
coaches will contribute 10 pesos each game for the ball

boys. Thanks to the generous stakeholders from Ormoc
City Midtown Tennis Club members who donated an
amount as additional fund for the ball boys. All the
initiatives of the tennis team made the Division Siglaro
2023 a success.

Participants’ Feedback Participating coaches and players were very much

 thankful to the officiatiang officials especially to the
tournament manager Mrs. Wilma A. De La Cruz for
managing the 2023 Division Siglaro tennis tournament
properly and successfully. Each game were played fairly
and everybody enjoyed watching the match where the
athletes trained for the tournament did their best to win
and the best one won!

Weather was the very big challenge we encountered

during the tournament. We needed to stop the game when
it rain and waited for the rain to stop before we can
continue. For the safety of the athletes we have to wait for
sometime and let the court dried up before we resume the
game since we are playing at the open court. Fortunately,
the secondary matches finished ahead of time because

they had lesser entries than the elementary so the
elementary were able to use the shell court (courts 1 and
2) where it easily dried up compared to the hardcourt
(court 3). Less manpower to officiate the games but it was
resolved as the TM found volunteers to help in officiating
the games in 3 different courts.
