Assignment-Assertion and Reason

CLASS-IX, MATHEMATICS
The following questions consist of two statements-Assertion(A) and Reason(R). Answer
these questions selecting the appropriate option given below:
(a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation for A.
(b) Both A and R are true and R is not the correct explanation for A.
(c) A is true but R is false.
(d) A is false but R is true.

Q1. Assertion(A): x + y = 6 is the equation of a line passing through the origin.

Reason (R): Any equation of the form y = mx passes through the origin.
Q2. Assertion(A): The graph of the linear equation 2x+5y = 10 meets the y-axis at the
point (0, 2).
Reason (R): Any linear equation ax + by + c = 0 meets the y-axis when its x co-
ordinate is 0.
Q3. Assertion(A): The perpendicular distance of the point p(3, 5) from x-axis is 5

Reason (R): The perpendicular distance of the point p(x, y) from the x-axis is y.
Q4. Assertion (A): The points A(2, 3) and B(2,-4) both lie on the line parallel to y-axis.
Reason (R): The point A(2, 3) lies in the first quadrant.
7
Q5. Assertion (A): The simplest form of 0.54 is 11

Reason (R): A number whose decimal expansion is terminating or non-repeating

recurring (repeating) is rational.
6
Hence 0.54 =
11

Q6. Assertion (A): (5+ √2) + (5-√2) is a rational.

Reason (R): Sum of two irrational numbers may be rational or irrational.
Q7. Assertion (A): If a + b + c = 0, then a3+b3+c3= 3 a b c
Reason (R): a3+b3+c3-3abc = (a + b + c) (a² + b² + c² -ab – b c -ca)
Q8. Assertion (A): If (x-1) is a factor of polynomial p(x)=x2+kx+1, then k = 2.
Reason (R): If (x-a) is a factor of p(x) then p(a)=0.
Q9. Assertion (A): In the given figure ACB is a straight line, then ∠ACD = 720

Reason (R): If a ray stands on a line, then the sum of two adjacent angles so formed
is 1800 .
Q10. Assertion(A): If AB = QR, BC= RP and CA = PQ, then ∆CAB ≅ ∆PQR.
Reason (R): If all the three corresponding sides of two triangles are equal, then this
criteria is known as SSS congruent.
Q11. Assertion (A): If the base of an isosceles triangle is 6 cm and its perimeter is 16 cm,
then its area is 12 cm2.
Reason (R): If a, b, c be the sides of the ∆ABC, then its perimeter 2s = a +b + c and its
area is √𝑠(𝑠 − 𝑎)(𝑠 − 𝑏)(𝑠 − 𝑐) .

Q12. Assertion (A): The area of an equilateral triangle having side 4 cm is 3 cm 2.

√3
Reason (R): The area of an equilateral triangle having each side a is a² sq. units.
