1.0 Equipment General Data and Information

2.0 Mechanical Checks and Visual Inspections

1. Inspect for physical damage or defects.
2. Check name plate and information with drawings and
specifications as specified in Data Schedule.
3. Check tightness of all bolted connections.
4. Check VT is grounded by bare copper conductor 1x240 mm 2
fault current level 40kA and 2x240 mm2 for fault current level
above 40 kA.
5. Check mechanical clearances and proper operation of all
isolation and grounding devices (as applicable).
6. Check oil level.
7. Check electromagnetic unit consists of intermediate voltage
transformer, compensating reactor and associated protection
circuitry.
8. Check that the rated burden is at least 100VA at a power factor
0.85 lagging
9. Check the following are enclosed in the LV terminal box
 Secondary terminals
 Fuses/MCBs
 Damping devices
 Protective devices
 Thermostatically controlled space heater
10. Check that the LV terminal box is part of the base housing
enclosure.
11. The CVT for 380 KV nominal system voltages shall be supplied
with a corona ring.

12. Check that the LV terminal box internal face of the cover is
provided with a metallic plate with the schematic diagram of
windings and of their terminal markings.
13. Check that the terminals in terminal block in LV terminal box is
non-captive pan head screw type.
14. Check the external earthing copper conductor connected of
240mm2 connected to metal base.
15. Check earthing secondary windings and cable screens.
16. Check for oil leakage.
17. Check electromagnetic unit spark gaps for correct setting (if
applicable).
18. Make sure that MCB for VT secondary is provided in the VT
box.
19. Check that the CVT has been provided with Ferro resonance
damping devices.
20. Check drain coil unit is connected to the output lead of the
coupling capacitor to provide low impedance path to ground for
the 60 Hz component of the incoming current.

3.0 Electrical Tests

1. Insulation test as following:
Primary to ground 5kV DC for one minute.
Primary to secondary 2.5kV DC for one minute.
Secondary to ground and core to core 1kV DC for one minute.
2. Winding Resistance Test. (Ambient temperature shall be
recorded; winding resistance shall be referred to 75°C).
3. Perform all specific tests per manufacturer’s instruction.
4. Check electrical operation of all isolating and grounding
devices (if applicable).
5. Measure dissipation factor (tanδ).
6. Check on fast damping device (FDD).
7. Turns Ratio Test.
8. Polarity Test.

9. Primary and secondary fuses rating checks for (if applicable).


10. Check VT HV neutral is solidly grounded.
11. Check phase sequence, for the final three-phase assembly.
12. Verify secondary circuits, terminal to terminal for correctness
and tightness.
13. Loop resistance test and burden test.
14. Check gaps of protective flashover devices (if applicable).
