EFFECTIVENESS OF AUTHENTIC PROJECT-BASED LEARNING IN

GRADE 5 DURING DISTANT LEARNING AT


DEL CARMEN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of authentic project- based learning in
Grade 5 during distant learning at Del Carmen Elementary School. More specifically, it
sought to answer the following questions: (1) what are the different authentic project-
based developed by Grade 5 pupil during distant learning? (2) what is the level of
effectiveness of authentic project-based in Grade 5 in terms of: quality, creativity,
relevance to the topic, and utilization of local and indigenous materials? and (3) is there
a significant difference between the perception of pupils and teachers in the level of
effectiveness of authentic project-based in Grade 5 during distant learning? The
respondents of the study were 15 Grade 5 pupils and 1 teacher through random
sampling method. Moreover, it employed quantitative -non-experimental descriptive-
evaluative method of research. The frequency count and percentage technique were
used to determine the different authentic project-based developed by Grade 5 pupils
during distant learning. The weighted mean and ranking technique were used to
determine the level of effectiveness of authentic project-based in Grade 5 in terms of (a)
quality; (b) creativity; (c) relevance to the topic; and (d) utilization of local and
indigenous materials. The T-test will be used to evaluate the significant difference
between perception of pupils and teachers in the level of effectiveness of authentic
project-based in Grade 5 during distant learning. Findings implied there were different
authentic project- based developed by the Grade 5 pupils during distant learning as
perceived by the teacher and pupils, among those, were: (a) essay; (b) portfolio; (c)
problem-solving that involves real- world scenarios; (d) designed or created a product
out of local or recyclable materials and; video presentation that showcases the
application of their acquired knowledge in their daily lives. Moreover, the level of
effectiveness of authentic project-based as perceived by the teacher and pupils along
with the four criteria were highly effective. Furthermore, there is no significant difference
between the perception of the teacher and pupils in the level of effectiveness of
authentic project-based in Grade 5 during distant learning.
