An AC generator, also known as an alternator, is a device that converts mechanical energy into electrical

energy by utilizing electromagnetic induction. Here is a description of the construction of an AC

generator:

1.Stator: The stator is the stationary part of the generator and consists of a series of wire coils wound
around a laminated iron core. These coils are arranged in a circular pattern and are spaced evenly apart.

2.Rotor: The rotor is the rotating part of the generator and consists of a shaft, an iron core, and a series
of wire coils wound around the core. The rotor is mounted on bearings and is connected to the
mechanical energy source that drives the generator.

3.Slip Rings and Brushes: The slip rings and brushes provide a means of transferring electrical power
from the rotating part of the generator to the stationary part. The slip rings are mounted on the shaft of
the rotor and are connected to the wire coils. The brushes are stationary and press against the slip rings
to make electrical contact.

4.Exciter: The exciter is a small generator that is mounted on the same shaft as the rotor. It provides the
initial magnetic field to start the generation process.

5.Voltage Regulator: The voltage regulator controls the output voltage of the generator and ensures
that it remains constant under varying load conditions.
