The Korean Wave Phenomenon in the Middle of the Covid-19 Pandemic

Korean dramas are known to have the power of an interesting storyline to be able to make
many viewers feel emotional. The character's ability to convey his character is also the main
hook for Korean drama connoisseurs. The Covid-19 pandemic has made people spend almost
all of their time at home so they will explore anything available in online media as
entertainment, Korean dramas are no exception. Not a few people were initially not very
interested in Korean dramas, since the pandemic they have become addicted to Korean
dramas.
The spread of the Korean Wave cannot be separated from the role of the media as a
disseminator of information that popularizes a cultural product, especially online media and
social media. In this case, social media has a bigger role. For example, on Twitter, people
exchange information about Korean dramas that are interesting and fun to watch, and discuss
the continuation of a drama.
The magnitude of the influence of social media in popularizing a cultural product is used by K-
Pop Idol agencies and actors and actresses in Korean dramas to expand their network and
influence people in the world. For example, they decided to create entertaining content for
fans via YouTube. The existence of this content will of course get the attention of fans who
cannot meet idols in person, especially with the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Covid-19 pandemic has actually become a blessing for K-Pop actors and idols because they
can still work in a Work From Home way through the use of social media. The enthusiasm of
people around the world, especially Indonesia, for Korean and K-Pop dramas is influenced by
several factors. One of them is the actors and their ability to convey the characters being
played, so that it makes the audience feel as if they are also feeling the emotions just like in the
drama
