DEDUCTION OF ADVERB CLAUSE TO MODIFYING ADVERB

PHRASE

INTRODUCTION:

This session we will discuss deduction of adverb clause to modifying adverb phrase.
Adverb clause can be changed into modifying adverb phrase by omitting some parts of
the clause such as the subject or sometimes the subordinate conjunction and by
changing the verb into –ing form.

PROBLEM:
Direction: When possible, change the adverbial clauses in the following
sentences into modifying adverbial phrases.
Example:
Adverb Clause : While I was walking to class, I ran into an old friend
Adverbial Phrase: While walking to class, I ran into an old friend.

1. Before Diva left for work, she took her son to school.
2. I entered the manager’s room just as my friend was being interviewed.
3. Akbar started to be interested in a girl when he was 15.
4. Don’t chat or watch a movie while you are cooking. You may burn the food.
5. While Ivan was riding the motorcycle Tissa was leaning her head on his
shoulder.
6. Let’s book the plane tickets earlier while they are available.
7. Since Annisa entered this university, she has fallen in love twice.
8. After he had closed his store, Rangga went to the candle light dinner.
9. Because he needed much money to buy a house Rivaldo sold her favorite
car.
10. Since he was not fasting and he didn’t want anyone to know, he
reserved a private room for lunch.
