In the following chart you will find some of the most common suffixes in
English. Some of these suffixes don’t change the position of the primary
stress in the word. However, other suffixes do, so it’s important to know
them and practice them.

Mark the stressed vowel (or syllable) in the following words. Check the
answers at the end of this practice to see if you got it right. If you got a
word wrong, go over the table again. Then, read each word out loud 10
times and make sure you stress the right vowel (or syllable).
