Fryer, Galois and Hypatia Mathematics Contests

The Fryer, Galois and Hypatia (FGH) Math Contests are an opportunity for students to write a full-
solution contest. They are fun way to develop mathematical problem solving skills through a written
mathematical activity.

Audience [Academic year 2022 – 23]

Students in Grade 9 or below are eligible to write the Fryer Contest.

Students in Grade 10 or below are eligible to write the Galois Contest.

Students in Grade 11 or below are eligible to write the Hypatia Contest.

Date of contest: 6th April, 2023

Fees: 12 Canadian Dollars + Shipping

Format

• 4 questions; some answer only and some full solution


• marks for full solution questions assigned for form and style of presentation
• 75 minutes
• 40 total marks

Mathematical Content

Questions are based on curriculum common to all Canadian provinces. Rather than testing content,
most of the contest problems test logical thinking and mathematical problem solving.
