URBAN MORPHOLOGY

AIM

Urban morphology is the study of the formation of human settlements and the
process of their formation and transformation.
The study seeks to understand the spatial structure and character of a
metropolitan area, city, town or village.
Urban morphology is of interest to many different knowledge domains. Its
theoretical aspects relate to urban geography, history, architecture, and spatial
economics. In its applied forms, it is an important com-ponent of urban design,
but it is also of concern to development, urban planning, and urbanization.

METHODOLOGY

 In my design im going to proposed eco friendly systems in urban cities,

towns and small cities.
 The reconstruction of this one-way street addressed several major
challenges, including inadequate design and planning, poor maintenance
standards, and inefficient utility management so improve the facilities
and road areas.(traffic diasplay screen).
 Balance existing uses.
 Enhance user experience, increase pedestrian safety, and calm traffic.
 Reduce disruptive construction practices by investing in upfront, quality
 construction for long-term durability.material:( pozzolan cement). it is an
eco-friendly cement as the material used in the manufacture are made of
natural recycled waste.
 Additional advantages gained by adding a pozzolan to the concrete mix
design include reduced heat of hydration damage, increased long-term
compressive strength, and a reduction in the massive carbon footprint
from the production of Portland cement—natural pozzolans are not
simply added, but are used to replace some of the cement.
 Increase pedestrian volume
 Wait time at pedestrian crossings reduced from 5 min to 2 mins
 12 sec pedestrian crossing time reduced to 12 secs, with shorter crossing
distances.

INTERNET CASE STUDY :

Location: Bangalore, India

Population: 8.42 million
Context: Central Business District
Right-of-way: 18–20 m (on average)
Length: Approximately 1 km
Urbanization is considered as a significant driver of land use and land cover change
which is closely associated with the growth of population and economy. (BENGALURU)

Geographical Information System and remote sensing technology are efficient tools
for detecting patterns and trends of urban growth.

In order to avoid unwanted impact of urban growth at the local and regional level,
planning for expected future growth is essential. Bengaluru (previously known as
Bangalore), in Karnataka, India, is a city of economic success, challenges,
opportunities, hopes and above all, a city of dreams for immigrants.

The study aims to quantify trends of urban growth in Bengaluru city using
Geographical Information System, remote sensing techniques and Shannon’s Entropy
method.

The study reveals an increasing trend in the entropy values for the city signifying
urban sprawl or dispersed development of the city.

It also indicates spatial shifting of growth centres within the city. Results of
demographic and spatial analysis were verified through visual survey of ground truth.

The process and the findings have a high utility to comprehend the land use changes
and forecast expansion patterns to develop a future scenario, which may be further
used to prepare planning and management strategies at regional as well as local
levels.

 Enhanced and extended sidewalks.

 One-way protected cycle tracks.

 Consistent travel lanes.

 Dedicated and paved bus, auto rickshaw, and parking bays.

 Landscaped strip between the motorized and non-motorized paths.

 Protection and enhancement of existing trees with pits and guards.

 Reconfiguration of underground utilities with the creation of access

chambers for utility lines.
