Name: Zeenat Manawar Shaikh

Std. S.Y.B.Ed, Roll No. 37,

Introduction:
Co-curricular activities are an integral part of the educational
experience, as they provide opportunities for students to develop skills
beyond the classroom curriculum. One such activity that was conducted
in the classroom was a debate. On 12/01/2023, a co-curricular activity
was conducted in the classroom among students on the topic of
"Importance of Technology in the Classroom". The aim of the debate was
to encourage critical thinking, public speaking, and communication
skills among the students. The activity was conducted with the
participation of 40 students, and it lasted for 40 minutes. This report
provides an overview of the activity, including the debate format,
objectives, methodology, outcomes, and recommendations.

Objectives:
The primary objective of the debate activity was to encourage
students to think critically about the role of technology in the classroom.
Additionally, the activity aimed to develop students' communication
and argumentation skills, as well as their ability to work collaboratively
in teams.

Debate Format:
The debate was organized in a formal manner, following a
structured format with a moderator and participants divided into two
groups - one supporting the motion, and the other opposing it. Each
group had 20 participants who were allotted a fixed time to present their
arguments.
The debate began with the moderator introducing the topic and
inviting the first participant from each group to present their arguments.
The participants were required to provide supporting evidence and facts
for their claims. The opposing group then presented their
counterarguments, and the process continued until all participants had a
chance to speak.

Methodology:
The activity was conducted in a classroom setting, with
approximately 30 students divided into two teams. Each team was
assigned a position to argue either in favor of or against the importance
of technology in the classroom. The teams were given a week to research
and prepare their arguments, with the assistance of the teacher.
On the day of the debate, each team was given 10 minutes to
present their arguments, followed by a 5-minute rebuttal period. The
presentations were evaluated by a panel of judges consisting of the
teacher and two student representatives from each team.

Evaluation Criteria:
The participants were evaluated based on their ability to present
their arguments coherently, use relevant facts and examples to support
their claims, and respond to the counterarguments effectively. They
were also evaluated on their use of language, confidence, and overall
presentation skills.

Outcomes:
The debate activity was a success, as it achieved its primary
objectives. Students demonstrated their critical thinking,
communication, and argumentation skills throughout the activity. The
debate also provided an opportunity for students to learn from each
other and develop a deeper understanding of the topic.
The judges praised both teams for their excellent research and
presentation skills. The team in favor of technology in the classroom
argued that it provides students with access to a wealth of information,
promotes engagement, and prepares them for the modern workforce.
The team against technology in the classroom argued that it can be a
distraction, hinders creativity, and undermines the importance of face-
to-face communication.

Recommendations:
The debate activity was well-received by both students and
teachers. To further enhance the activity, the following
recommendations are proposed:
1. Increase the duration of the activity to allow for more in-depth
research and preparation.
2. Introduce a cross-examination period to encourage students to think
on their feet and respond to opposing arguments.
3. Provide more guidance on how to structure arguments and use
evidence effectively.

Results:
At the end of the debate, a vote was taken to determine the
winning group. The majority of the participants supported the motion,
and the group supporting the importance of technology in the classroom
was declared the winner.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, the co-curricular activity of debate conducted on the
importance of technology in the classroom was a successful co-curricular
activity that provided students with an opportunity to develop critical
thinking, communication, and argumentation skills. The activity
demonstrated the importance of co-curricular activities in enhancing the
educational experience and providing students with opportunities to
develop skills beyond the classroom curriculum. It also allowed them to
explore their opinions on a relevant topic and engage in healthy debate
and discussion. Overall, the activity helped to create a dynamic learning
environment that encouraged active participation and engagement from
all the students.
