Reinforced Concrete Structure III Assignment

Note:- Two or three students per group is Allowed Submit before one days before final exam
1. A transfer girder supports one planted columns, having factored load of 3600KN as shown
in the figure below. Design the beam using the Strut and Tie Model method. Use material
properties of C-30 for concrete and fy=400 for steel class I works. All dimension is given
in cm.

2. A single corbel projecting from a 40 cm *40 cm column is to be designed to support precast

beam reaction forces at 120 mm from the face of the column. The factored vertical load to
be carried is 320 KN. A horizontal force of 64 KN is assumed to develop to account for
creep and shrinkage deformations. The concrete strength is C-30 MPa (normal density),
and the yield strength of reinforcement is taken as 400 MPa.
3. A curved beam AB of 600 circle with a radius of R=5m and a cross section of
400mmx300mm which is fixed at A and B is shown below. It carries a uniformly
distributed load of w=20 KN/m length of the circular curve.
i. Draw the bending moment and twisting moment diagram
ii. Design the beam for shear, moment and torsion. Use C-30 and S-420 class I works.
4. A concrete beam with a rectangular section 300mm wide 900mm deep and supports a
uniformly distributed live load of 3KN/m over the entire length as shown in the figure
below.
a) Determine the profile of the pre-stressing cable with an effective force of 600KN
which can balance service loads on beam.
b) Sketch the profile of the cable along the length of beam.

5. Design a 225mm thick shear wall of 3.6m height at the ground floor of the building. The
shear wall is carrying a 200mm thick slab on the first floor of the building. The action
effects on the shear wall are as follows.
• Vertical load ---------- 300kN/m
• Live load ------------ 55kN/m
Use concrete grade of C-30 and reinforcement steel grade of S-500.
